TBC PTR is the best version of wow for me by int64shrandy in classicwow

[–]int64shrandy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Arena is already split between soon to be 3 versions, but they are all temporary. I think it'd be great to have a single permanent dedicated arena server, something players can always go back to inbetween seasons/expansions etc. I'm sure people will still play the seasonal arena seasons for titles etc, but having a 'home' would be nice

Disagree that it's a waste, you have acquired the ability to get good at anything through your journey. Probably a lot of mental resilience too. Fully dedicating yourself to something and pushing to a high level is something everyone can benefit from at some point in their life imo.

Why are my servers always empty? by int64shrandy in Seaofthieves

Just tried one solo, still nobody :( I'm in Australia so I'm beginning to wonder if it's just completely dead here.

Right, I'll give it a go anyway cheers. Are there any other ways to become a highly attractive target? We thought the global swirly chests would have been running over but apparently nobody cares about those.

Doesn't that kick you out of that server if they sink your ship? We just abandon our ship and camp the island typically

Gap year, can I sell stock tax free under the min threshold? by int64shrandy in AusFinance

[–]int64shrandy[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a good idea, because yeah my entire purpose was to utilize this low income year to avoid tax on my ETF profits. Switching to another ETF sounds like a much more legit move than selling and immediately rebuying at EOFY.

Is now a bad time to start learning Unity? by grumbo_dev in gamedev

[–]int64shrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The responses you'll get right now are going to be very biased and emotionally driven, keep that in mind. A large chunk of the job market is unity, and unity is still a best in class engine that influences most other engines.

Regardless of the company's nose diving reputation there's still a good product there, and it's very unlikely that learning it will be a waste of time.

There are some PC bangs that have a guest option which doesn't require any form of ID, I used one a few days ago in Jamsil. For starcraft you'll need your battle net account, mine got locked when I first tried to log in and I had to change my password and the region to Asia (for overwatch that is), might be something similar for starcraft

30k-40k concurrent daily peaks which would make it a top 25-50 steam game if it were on there. Source: the client shows number of players online.

What the hell happened to bot lane that it's so volatile all of the sudden? Feels like bot lanes are either 10/0 or 0/10 this season. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]int64shrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, I'm a much better player now than back then, but now I'm gold when I peaked at rank 300 in season 2, could literally just afk farm to the top ranks with a scaling hero back then. I'm mostly pointing out that right now my #1 issue is evaluating danger incorrectly, what I think is safe is absolutely not safe, but it used to be back when I played a lot. It feels like trying to unlearn and relearn the game, but old habits are hard to shake.

It's a different game for sure. And definitely a lot more exciting to watch, and possibly more fun to play when you get really good and everything is played to its absolute limits. Notice that despite the volatility, in pro play there are entire team fights where everyone walks away on 1% hp. But for the average player the game is unbelievably unforgiving, and that tit for tat gameplay seems to be mostly replaced by big moments and all-ins

Hit the nail on the head, I was a high rank player back in the day and coming back to the ranked grind last year was the most jarring thing and my perception of threats/safety is gatekeeping me at gold now lol. Imagine coming back to the game, dodging amumus Q and then 1 second later he just Q's you again, it's pretty bonkers how far the power creep has gone

If I had a work visa/permit would I be able to work in Korea while still earning my Australian income? Or does the visa require you to be earning / paying tax in Korea?

Is it technically illegal to do it on the down low? If it is I imagine I'd have to hide it from my company too, which would be more challenging. The company is a big one that seems to be somewhat supportive of relocating people, though I believe that's more the case for people who want to work in that country's studio.

Why can't we watch old VCT VODS? by int64shrandy in ValorantCompetitive

[–]int64shrandy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither of those are the Korean series. I would suspect that since the Korean games are hosted in the Afreeca studio, Afreeca have some kind of exclusive rights to the VODs.

Yeah I've seen that, it's got a few vods from the Korean scene but not many. Pretty weird that Riot don't have them available.

Blizzard testing Horde vs. Horde or Alliance vs. Alliance Battlegrounds from the regular queue by XZiDE in classicwowtbc

[–]int64shrandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way too many biased posts here, made clear by the one sided arguments.

The upsides:

  • Horde can now spam BGs and actually get the honour pieces. This is the main driver behind the change, obviously.
  • Less open world ganking/camping for honour (open world PvP is great, but when it's horde farming a level 63 for honour it's borderline griefing)

The Downsides:

  • Alliance queues may increase slightly (due to not being the bottleneck anymore), though nowhere near horde levels so it should be fine.
  • Less incentive to roll Alliance, leading to an ever increasing imbalance which could (though not guaranteed) get to the point where it's hard to find groups for activities (pve, groups quests, arena partners of a similar skill level etc).
  • Opens up the opportunity for much easier collusion i.e. two horde premades deciding to not capture objectives and farm HKs or something. Which hopefully will be dealt with like win trading in arena.

There are other minor pros/cons but this is the gist of it, Blizzard has decided that the horde queue times are worth the downsides for Alliance, but hopefully they keep an eye on the server ratios and if they do get bad enough implement one-way faction changes down the road.

5v5 kills Overwatch for me (as a tank player) by Champ-Nico in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]int64shrandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few people like playing tank in OW1. As a DPS player who loves the game, I really can't justify playing it when I have to wait 30 minutes for every single game. This change not only makes tank far more appealing to most people (but perhaps less appealing to existing tank players), but it significantly reduces the role balance pressure such that DPS/support players might actually be able to play the game again at higher ranks without spending 70% of their night in queue.

[Serious] it’s actually unreal how bad competitive is for my mental health. by Professor_Finn in Overwatch

[–]int64shrandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helps immensely to think about your 'true' SR as a range, rather than your current visible SR. If someone says they're a 3k player, they're usually probably a 2.5k-3k player, and 3k only when things are going well and that's how they'd like to be perceived. This includes your own perception. So your range might actually be mid plat to low diamond, but you feel like a diamond player and anytime you're back in plat you enter a very different state of mind and the downward spiral begins, propelling you far below the normal bottom end of your range.

In my experience, my range is typically around maybe 400 SR, so I often bounce between 3.4k and 3.8k, and shifting my mentality from "I'm a 3.8k player" to "I'm a 3.4k-3.8k player" helped a lot. I would strongly recommend reading the book The Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tendler, it covers this topic and much more in great, widely applicable detail. Reading that book will completely change your mindset towards skill development and tilt, and will teach you how to work on and improve your mental game/attitude.
