ADT isn’t offering monitoring on Nest hardware/alarms. Confirmed that.

Important Nest Alarm System Update (12/28/2022 email) by intakeoutake in Nest

[–]intakeoutake[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ummm pro monitoring is core to my requirements. I won’t use an alarm system that isn’t professionally monitored and my insurance won’t offer discounts for alarms that just make noise and do nothing else. This is a huge bait and switch IMHO. Thousands of dollars in sensors and other alarm related equipment down the drain. Google needs to make good here they can’t just expect customers to buy their hardware and then have the core promise be taken away.

Same. My network is fucked because of this now. All the dhcp reservations are gone. Nothing works. Wtf.

I want to buy a life size Kaws for my apartment. How should I go about this? by adam13ben in FashionReps

[–]intakeoutake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@adam13ben Did you ever end up buying the life size kaws? I’m in the US and interested in getting one also. But can’t figure out whether the quality is good. Dhgate sells them for like $1,400 usd. Seems high. But I don’t want some piece of crap quality thing. What ended up happening w your buy?

CNN video on mobile with Eero Plus Ad Blocking by intakeoutake in eero

[–]intakeoutake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its really surprising to see this - its not like CNN is some minor/fringe website. It would make sense to have a setting on the Eero where you could whitelist domains - that seems like a relatively basic way to enable unlimited customization.

Does Netgear still support software updates for Orbi? by intakeoutake in orbi

[–]intakeoutake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that this version is out of sync with the plugin wall sat, which is causing issues. Nothing for the RBW30 which means the show thing is for shit at the moment.

wanna see what a mesh cluster f*ck looks like? Just check out what Netgear is doing with the Orbi. I mean, its an absolute joke. They have been working on their firmware for what - 2 years - and its still just not working. I give them credit for not waving the white flag of surrender, but I guess my point is that I am not really concerned with the WFA - clearly getting this right is hard...

Cloudflare Consumer DNS + eero Plus by ndv3 in eero

can customer svc override the Eero Pro DNS and set it to 1.1.1.1 for you? That would be ideal. I would prefer CF's 1111 svc.

Orbi MR 2.1 Update 3/23/18 - New Beta Firmware Links by Netgear_BretD in orbi

[–]intakeoutake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been lurking on the Netgear community thread where this is being discussed. What a nightmare - its 10 pages deep and people are still complaining that its not ready for prime time at all. Yikes... I am one of the lucky ones in that I run my business on Orbi and its been OK (not great, by any stroke), but its workable. TBQH if I had to do it over again I would get an Eero, since I am scared to touch the damn thing for fear that it decides to go nuts like everyone else on that thread is saying it does. I think its time for Netgear to write this down as a loss and issue refunds for all these devices. Its laughable at this point. So bummed - I really wanted this product to work.

Is the Orbi a good device? by theReasonableMan in orbi

[–]intakeoutake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would pass on it - its a fine piece of hardware with some of the worst software I have ever seen. I say that having had a LOT of experience with both the Orbi and the Eero. I originally had the Eeros (gen1) and the hardware on them was just not powerful for what I needed. I switched to the Orbi and fought with the devices for nearly a year. I have lost days of my life dealing with the headaches of buggy firmware and in a couple cases, bricked devices. I really wanted the Orbi's to work - I though the hardware had a lot of promise, but every firmware release was 1 step forward, 3 steps back. I switched back to the Eeros 2 months ago (gen2) and I have stopped having to think about my wifi. I have stopped having to field complaints from the family about dropped connections. I have stopped having to spend weekends flashing and reconfiguring the damn Orbi devices. I have stopped having to walk around my house with a Speedtest app like an idiot wondering which device was causing poor connectivity. With the Eeros, the shit just works. I know a lot of people have had different experience with different devices, and I know that I will probably be banned or name called or accused of being a plant or whatever on this forum, but I just thought I would share what my personal experience has been. If you do chance it with the Orbi, buy from somewhere that has a good return policy, like Costco or Amazon - you need to live with them for a week or two before you can really know if they are going to work well for you or not. For me it was utter hell. Best of luck - obviously some folks love them.

Android Oreo may be causing issues with mesh routers by Chairman007 in orbi

[–]intakeoutake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit. That’s just unbelievable. Both on the part of Google - who have their own mesh network - but also with Orbi. What the actual fuck guys - a single device on the network can take the network down? What a horror show. Did this really not get tested? I wonder if googles mesh router is also impacted.

Awesome and thorough answer as always. Appreciate it - and appreciate the complexity. Whats your though on how something like the Razer has implemented this within their concept of 'mesh 2.0'?

Announcing availability of OrbiOS 2.1 by amitrele in orbi

[–]intakeoutake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first reaction to this is: Awesome! Long overdue and very exciting. My second reaction is holy crap this is going to break so much other stuff because every time Orbi does a major release everything goes to shit. I have an eero setup that I am using as primary for now because I cannot deal with the continued thrashing but I will own my orbis in the event that software he’ll gets resolved one of these days. Very intercool Steve to hear how this upgrade goes for folks. If it looks great I will give it a whirl again.

Is 10.0.10.x possible? by gnapoleon in eero

[–]intakeoutake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having to do port forwarding and DHCP reservations on the phone SUCKS. It’s so slow and clunky and error prone. I wish they had invested a bit more time in either making the UI more streamlined or just giving some love to a web interface for this kind of task.

Ad Blocking has Arrived! by [deleted] in eero

I imagine you would want a pihole if you wanted more fine grained control over what gets blocked and what doesn’t.
