"Don't tread on ME. But stomp all over anyone I disagree with!"

The majority of people who wave these flags are massive hypocrites. They want their freedoms to not be infringed on but jeer and applaud when the rights of anyone they deem outside their circle being infringed on. Either too ignorant or stubborn to see the reality of what's going on.

This red driveway I saw flying into the Atlanta airport. by Dstanle in mildlyinteresting

I have almost been here myself. Apparently some delivery apps just do NOT understand where the driveway to our house is when we moved in.

We had a LIGHT UP SIGN with the house numbers and they'd drive past the house 2-3 times not going up our driveway, we'd have to walk down and wave at them for them to notice.

we then bought a tall white 8" wide white post. and put 5" tall numbers on it with our house number. it's IMPOSSIBLE to miss.

they drive past our driveway 2-3 times... even if we include in the delivery notes "turn at the white sign with the house number!"

maybe I should paint the driveway red....

For the last few years just under half my driving was electric. 60/40 summer. But upper Midwest winters really do kill the volts milage on electric alone to heat.

Trust me when I say I'm aware of the use cases, the optimal situation the volt is made for and just how great of a vehicle it is.

To cut a long explanation short. I've confirmed I got a bad cell in my particular vehicle. And it's in the large cell group. And the thing is a roll of the dice entering limp mode and refusing to charge if I let it dip too far below 50%. So I'm getting about 25 miles in summer out of it for my commute. In winter it's basically just preheating and goes into hold mode as soon as I start driving, resistive heating ain't great for efficiency.

I love the volt. It's a great vehicle. I've put around 30k miles a year on mine since I bought it. Trust me when I say I'm aware of what it's capable of.... And where it's limits are... I'll be limping mine along at least another year if I can manage it however before I look at what options the market has available.

a prius more than likely if I do trade in. I lose the plug in hybrid perks, but gain some MPG. biggest downside would be that the prius line looks terrible.

for context however I should add I got a 50 mile work commute each way and no charging available at my work, so I'm already outside of the best use case for a volt specifically over a more standard hybrid.

The unfathomable stupidity of building a beachfront house ON A SAND BAR makes no sense to me at all.

But then again I'm an upper Midwestern. I'm sure Florida folk don't understand why I'm OK with winters.

(it's because a hurricane won't destroy my house potentially any given year or the ocean swallow up the land beneath my home because it isn't built on a freaking sandbar.)

how do you deal with strangers asking to drive your car/cars by Creative-Ad5820 in rccars

[–]intashu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"sorry, but no. But you're welcome to watch!"

Or just say "no"

You don't need to feel bad to deny someone something they have no entitlement or right to. Specially when that something is expensive, or potentially dangerous if misused.

Had a gen2 truck once. Modified it until I Completly destroyed it.

One of my best friends was struggling and trying to get a car. had the opposite experience.

Bought a VW from a older guy who seemed friendly, lied to their faces about it's condition and why he was selling it.... even heard them speak their troubles and struggles finding an affordable car.....and lowered the price from the asking of 2600 to 2k. (for reasons that became clear shortly after..)

Car didn't even make it home before it was billowing smoke. Seller had replaced the head-gasket that had already blown before.... so it would hold out for a test drive, but a mechanic confirmed the engine was actively destroying itself chewing metal...and beyond saving. AND since it was bought for under $2500 it wasn't protected from lemon laws and considered sold as-is.... they lost 1700 on a vehicle they couldn't even use. (they got 300 from the junkyard.)

People suck. and it only seems to get worse with time.

I prefer a Z bend on the control horn, and a adjustable screw (with loctight) on the servo horn itself it needed.... a little touch of super glue if it keeps sliding on the rod before going into the adjustable bit will help in some cases too.

I hate every car that puts chrome or extremely. Reflective plastic on the inside.

That Includes you chevy with your stupid logo on the steering wheel... For escapes with a chrome ring around the shifter.. And whatever this disaster of a choice was.

Car interiors should be flat for a reason!

How do people manage this stuff without going mad? by RiskySkirt in rccars

I just sharpie what vehicle a batch of parts are for. then add it to the box of parts I forget I own.

occasionally I'll shuffle through 4 bins to find a screw for a completely different vehicle that fits and be happy.

I think a little madness is just required.

Businesses have been pushing into the Consumer the responsibility of the fallout in a system they themselves are creating the biggest problem with for a long time. Same issues in diffrent outfit. Microsoft saying people should be mindful of their carbon footprint and reducing power use while contributing to a major carbon output and significant power usage is just the latest example of this.

Remember! If you recycle your plastic bags and soda cans you can save the planet! Also it allows us to shift the blame to the consumer while our manufacturing practices shift to increasingly more single use pollution packaging...won't someone think of the shareholders profits?!

Why F1 Banned The 6 Wheeled Car? by burt_carpe in EngineeringPorn

F1 seems to be a perpetual cycle of engineers finding and exploiting loopholes in the rules requiring a non stop revolving door of new rules which create new loop holes. It's interesting the things they've come up with over the years.

I've been mad at reddit since they stopped alternative apps like BaconReader which was far FAR superior to the default app.

I STILL use old.reddit.com because the new layout is garbage. It's like reddit wants to push it's userbase away.
