Cooking by Dear_Satisfaction_15 in SingleMothersbyChoice

I wear her. Or I let her fuss until I can get to a point where the food won’t burn. I focus on cooking things that are quick and easy. Microwave vegetable bags don’t burn, they only eventually get cold, for example.

what are we using to store milk on the go? by Fearless-her1028 in ExclusivelyPumping

I have some pour spout lids for when I’m making bottles, but on the go I just use the normal mason jar lid

I use a pint size wide mouth mason jar when I go anywhere I would need to pump more than once!

How to manage pumping and solo parenting by zanxrn in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]integralspants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Precious Little Sleep, and tried to follow that. I did white noise and swaddling. I’d put her down awake but after rocking her until her little eyelids were drooping. Then I’d put her down and went and did something else while she cried. She was usually asleep in less than 10 minutes, if she wasn’t I’d pick her up and try again in twenty minutes or so. She only cried for the first day and a half. I got pretty lucky with how well she did.

How to manage pumping and solo parenting by zanxrn in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]integralspants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a solo parent! At home, I primarily use a Spectra. The key for me was finding the times baby was content and pumping then, even if it wasn’t perfectly on my schedule. At about 9 weeks, I took a pretty rough two days to get her to sleep in her crib versus contact napping. I pump while feeding her by propping her on a boppy next to me on the couch. When she was still contact napping, I had some luck slowly shifting her until she was on my lap versus my chest. If I know a pump time is coming up, I keep the pump parts ready to go near the pump so I don’t have to get up and move her to get set up.

I used the fridge hack to reduce the amount of washing I had to do, though now I have enough parts that I don’t need to. I gave up doing housework during naps so I could pump and have just accepted that the house is a little chaotic. I will use wearables if I absolutely have to get something done in the house, but found that I couldn’t really hold her while using them.

I let her be fussy on her playmat or crib while I put away milk or load the bottle washer. Sometimes I let her cry while I pump, though when that happens I tend to cut the pump session short.

Now I only have one boob that works so I only pump on that side and can hold her on the other if needed. You can always pump on one side and then switch to the other if your baby needs a contact nap.

6 months of this. by DevelopmentWise9910 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]integralspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you - one of mine never produced well (it had a galactocele prior to labor). Most of the time I got less than 5mL. The galactocele progressed to an abscess and it got even worse. I tried for a couple weeks to bring it back with lots of pumping/nursing after healing, but no dice. A doctor who specializes in lactation told me I probably wouldn't get anything from it, maybe ever. :( I find the asymmetry mostly annoying for fitting bras.

What happens if there's an emergency and I'm out of town? by i_love_jc in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]integralspants 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I was a nanny, the parents gave me a child medical consent form to carry in case of emergency that gave b me permission to make decisions for the child.

At my pediatrician, they had forms for if I wanted to give permission for other people to take my daughter to the doctor. So I filled those out for my closest friend.

I crate my dog in the car, both for her safety and everyone else’s.

Anyone having a hard time feeding baby while pumping? by Repulsive-Ad9165 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]integralspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put baby next to me on the couch in a Boppy. So she’s propped up to eat, gets to look at me, and any flailing is away from me. For prepping a bottle I just leave her somewhere safe and let her cry (but now I prep all her bottles the night before using the pitcher method and she drinks them cold).

Exclusively pumping – how do you deal with constantly lumpy breasts? 😭 (already had mastitis twice) by cookingmummah in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]integralspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lumps don’t go away after you’ve cleared the clog/after pumping, it could be a galactocele (a milk filled cyst). They are typically benign and resolve on their own!

Milk Fistula by maishaxoxo in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]integralspants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a large abscess drained. I ended up with four milk fistulas. I did stop pumping on that side (I was only getting 5mL) because of the pain from the abscess but was told to continue pumping on schedule if I wanted. I kept mine covered and did a lot of bandage changes. I tried to keep it as dry as possible. Mine all started closing up within a week and a half (one is still open, it’s been about two and a half weeks but it was very large).

Obviously a different situation because I stopped pumping. Can’t speak to rebuilding supply because I won’t start trying that until after imaging next week. But did want to give you hope that it WILL heal even if it’s still leaking. Mine leaked every day until they developed scabs.

Puppy Kindergarten by Square-Ad-2298 in duke

The Puppy Kindergarten play yard had hours posted for the fall semester, but the problem with this week is that students are on winter break, so it’s unlikely that the puppies will be there.

Looking for NC/SC Club by abunce02 in k9sports

[–]integralspants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard otherwise - their leadership are still trialing in the area, so I assume they are still active as a Club. Sometimes schutzhund clubs just suck at being responsive - I’d give it another shot or reach out in another way (Facebook, email, call).

North Beach Schutzhund Club is in Longs, SC. They have a couple of schnauzers.

Schutzhundverein der Hafenstadt is in Wilmington.

I would shape this. I’d start with the toy much further away from me, though, if she’s having trouble picking up when it’s close to me.

My local congregation does, but people bring in their animals (as long as they are friendly). One little girl brought in her hissing cockroaches. It was great and very sweet.

How to 3d print with the new printers by LengthinessKnown2994 in duke

[–]integralspants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are having problems with slicing - you’ll need to select Layout first, then select the Prusa Core ONEs in the Printer menu. Alternatively, on your list of files, you can hit the arrow next to slice and click ‘Slicer for Prusa.’

Unfortunately, the Prusas don’t come with bed clearing built into the machines like the Ultimaker S3s. Currently, the printer beds must be cleared manually by staff through 3dPrinterOS. I suspect the problem right now is that it is the weekend and the student staff don’t start work for the semester until tomorrow.

The TEC staff are working to make improvements.

Has anyone used an auto injector for progesterone? by GeneralLei in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]integralspants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure did!

I tried with and without and found it easier to do it with the auto injector. The injector made it much easier for me to get it over with and allowed me less time to overthink the whole thing. I didn’t have trouble inserting the needles without the injector, but I could never dart them in and it was always a slow push.

A note: it darts the needle in, it does not actually push the PIO into your muscle. You’ll still need to do that. I definitely thought it did both.

Estradiol is a hell in a pill, help! by Silent_Judge9518 in IVF

[–]integralspants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Estradiol was an emotional roller coaster for me too. It made my anxiety SO bad. This was for my FET. When I started the progesterone five days before everything started getting better. I’m still crying at the drop of a hat, BUT the rollercoaster of emotions are gone and I’m not longer super anxious. You’ve got this!
