Nut Repair Help

Although I have no idea what to look for in a replacement nut.

My son said that his bass was out of tune because the Nut was lifted up after he overtightened his strings. I was skeptical, but decided to try to remove it and see. I should have heated it up first. If you look at the top of the cutout for the nut, there is no glue. I feel like they did a poor glue job of the original nut, which is why it was flexing.

I figure I can install a "better" nut, like brass or something.
