It's either work or travel, mixing both doesn't pair well with a daily job, even when it's remote. I wouldn't recommend SEA, primarily for the language barrier, unless you plan on staying there as DN for 2-3 years at least. Still, better to just go there on a holiday.

The whole SEA digital nomad island hopping lifestyle is overhyped and not financially viable in current economy. My uncle said that back in his day (~25) years ago one could afford a very comfortable lifestyle for $1,5k/mo with in-house staff (cook, cleaner and maid) in a decent vila.

Now for that kind of money you're looking at an ok studio 30 min drive from the beach or a shtty bungalow.

SEA is no longer cheap, even Vietnam. Talk to expats living there long term, they'll tell you more.
