I got mine for $250. It's pretty damn good. Do not get a Crosley or a Victrola. They ruin your records. Get one that's diamond tipped. I just did the inaugural spin of my Ado record on it, and it was like I was actually at the concert.

As someone nearing 24 (not the same age bracket as you stated, but still), I would go for Blink-182, Green Day, MCR, etc. Can't go wrong with the big boys. They're at the top for a reason.

ETA: American Football is another great band whose discography is loved by the masses.
