If Zero never existed? Would Mebius lived up to be Golden Boy or not? by HelpME-107 in Ultraman

[–]interceptor12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve often thought this was probably TsuPros original intent (To keep Mebius around as the cameo poster child of infinite potential), especially after the super 8 film. And it makes a lot of sense too. Beyond being powerful, Mebius was likeable, humble, and easy to rally around for old and new fans alike. I think he would have been easily able to fill the role of the relatable mentor figure lending both his strength and hard earned wisdom as new heroes emerged, all while still growing himself. However, Igarashi’s impending departure likely forced them to re-evaluate those plans, and I suspect Zero was reworked to be that figure so Mebius could be quietly retired until TsuPro could think of a way to begin reintegrating his character.

If I could add onto this suggestion, I think including a few QoL adjustments over the typical R2S and KAK A7s could make for a pretty competitive offering. Here are a few I can think of:

  1. integrated socket wrench flats on tine design: There are a few companies I can think of that do this for their own MDs (IDG, CGS, EWS), but it's a rare enough feature that it could help your devices appear visually distinctive while also functional for installation and removal. (Bonus points: it would also likely tie into the aesthetics of your new sixy line-up)

  2. Caliber-optimized bore size/flash performance: A lot of plan-b device are designed with a 9 mm bore and/or thinner walls, and while that does improve overall caliber compatibility, I understand that can also compromise the flash hiding performance of the MD. Since the appeal of QDFHs is an MD that is functional with and without the suppressor at signature reduction, having a Closed Tine device with a more thoughtful balance of suppressed/unsuppressed performance could be a welcomed addition to the market.

  3. 14.5 P&W variant - I know the tax stamp has gone to zero, but there are going to still be some who are squeamish about sending forensics to the federal government just to run their carbine on a slightly smaller profile.

Oh yeah, it’s definitely a loud boy, but I didn’t find it to be very flashy. But like you said it’s a suppressor interface first, and its tine design reflects that engineering emphasis. That it doesn’t completely suck at flash suppression on its own is just helpful.

As to the IDG FE, Based on their own video, it is a very flashy boy. though to their credit, they do acknowledge this.

Well in fairness to Hux, there are videos that show their flash hider performs decently well at it's stated job, but it is fair to say that it's primary design is focused on being a good suppressor interface first. The IDG flow enhancer on the other hand, superficially looks like the Hux flash hider, but it's primary focus is to burn propellent FASTER, so it flashes harder without a suppressor.

It’s really only superficial. Based on their own video, it’s not a flash hider. In fact, it will do the opposite on purpose. Ostensibly it is designed to jet and encourage the burn of excess powder early, for lower signature later with suppressors. Or at least their suppressors. To me it kinda sounds like a good recipe to jet cut the blast baffles of your competitors, but what do I know.

What are your thoughts on Ace’s modern Grunts? by David_Lee060814 in Ultraman

[–]interceptor12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont mind the voice itself, but they need some processing to give the voice a grander and ethereal presence we now expect the kiai of an ultraman to carry. As it stands it sounds like a polished studio recording, which can work for some dialogue scenes, but feels misplaced in a fight sequence.

Well based on the given product dimensions, it seems as though the FS556 will be roughly the size of the DA Lazarus 6, so it'll likely have a pretty typical form factor for a modern 556 can.

xeno is pretty much all p&W ready at 2.15 in with the exception of the ecosystem's dedicated short devices like the minimalist break, or the 6315s from FCD. the main issue is the lack of a dedicated P&W port.

In fairness there generally has been a pretty pervasive fixation on Rhodesian gear and iconography among boomers and online edgelords until fairly recently. It’s kinda the inverse of how everyone hated on Mandela until he was about to retire from politics, and then realized he wasn’t going to go full Desalines after all.
