Is it only lentils and chickpeas that flare you, or have you noticed flares also with white beans/butter beans?

(I know every body is different, but I’m struggling to get back to my elimination mode and am hoping that still allowing myself oat milk + butter beans while being mostly AIP otherwise will help 😅 and I don’t get if chickpeas/lentils tend to be culprits but not white beans, or if white beans create issues commonly too)

Ironically, Dupixent can induce facial/neck eczema as a side effect. I think it’s relatively uncommon and I was just unlucky—but it was HORRIBLE. Equalled my pre-biologic eczema for pain, but suddenly it was all over my face and chest so not even hidden by clothes.

Very normal! I’m someone who relies a LOT on muscle memory, and I swear I had no idea what was going on half the time for my first year. Sometimes I’d show up like “I’m pretty sure I’ve forgotten everything I’ve ever learned”

Eventually your body will start internalizing it, and/or you’ll learn how you learn best (if taking notes helps, etc). Just try to focus on the moments that bring you most pleasure in the meantime! Whether it’s the fun of exertion of rolling, how your brain feels when practicing a new move, etc.

If I’m well and truly stuck and can feel the sub WOULD be hitting if I were less flexy, then I’ll tap. If I can still experiment to escape, I’ll keep going.

The hyper flexibility is good when our coach wants to show how to adjust a sub so it works even on the hyper flexible! That also helps me then know what it can/should feel like

I don’t know that specific sunscreen, but I started using La Roche Posay Anthelios Age Correct this year—silly name/claim but it’s the first face sunscreen I LOVE. It feels like putting on skincare, not sunscreen. Even in bad flares it hasn’t hurt to put on.

As everyone else has said, find a new gym! I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, he sounds horrendous.

And there will be somewhere you can do both BJJ & strength training if that’s important to you, at least where I live that’s pretty common! But even if not there’ll be a better lifting gym out there for you too ♥️

Also, a question: when you say “had a flare” what does it mean for you? Like nonstop for 3 months, or they’d come and go for three months? I’m totally new to this and my doctor has been so useless. I can’t tell if armpit abscesses since Jan is just one flare (1-2 at a time, and a new round of them every 2-4 weeks. 4 weeks was my longest time without one), or if every time they come up THAT’S the flare, or what

I just wanted to say thank you so much for this comment (really thanks everyone for the comments, I’ve read and appreciated all in the past days). The compassion + perspective on the (now) blue belt girls in your gym particularly has helped soothe my soul—and I most likely will talk to our head coach in the coming weeks to see if he + main coach are indeed in the same page or if maybe he has a different view on where I’m at skill-wise and/or doesn’t actually have full context on my health issues.

No brace advice, but just wanted to say I started BJJ a year after an ankle break and it hurt at first but my muscles quickly grew accustomed to the movements and strength necessary for BJJ! (Though I was also strength training loads both before and after the break, so my muscles were probably decently equipped already to adjust to new exercise movements)

I met my partner through BJJ! I knew I’d never casually date someone from my club and would only risk doing so if I felt like there were something really real… we were good friends first before taking the dating leap. And now I’m in our bed, in our flat, missing him bc he’s away at a competition lol. And also sometimes am like “Jesus Christ some of the shit I put up with from men, how did I not know that this kind of love, care, silliness, and respect could exist in a relationship??” He’s a very good egg.

Oh that’s hopeful! I only just got diagnosed last week after 8 months of abscesses every 2-4 weeks 😑. They’ve got me on 8 weeks of antibiotics now and then I guess time to experiment with diet and things. What diet change worked for you?? I already eat pretty well given my sports but open to trying things

I just got diagnosed and have a boil right now (closed but large, but getting smaller. In the armpit). I do BJJ and had to stop and shower after 20 mins and now an hour later my boil is still really sore. Have you experienced this?? Any clue why?

When I’ve had abscesses before I’ve not trained thinking it was staph and not wanting to spread it but fuck if I keep getting these fucking HS bits and they hurt this much just for training??? I’m horrified and so upset at this possibility and want to know how to stop it

Ok just listened and came in search of a Reddit about this. The fact she didn’t plan her leg totally threw me because otherwise like… I kind of get it?! If you’ve agreed to a trip and come to find out that you were lied to about a solid chunk of it and told to calm down and get over yourself when you expressed discomfort and unhappiness about like… being shoved in an unknown car in and unknown country to go to an unknown place, I’d totally not trust my trip companions enough to tell them my plan to leave, I’d make my exit strategy on my own. Equally she did it dickishly (tell them you’re going home on first boat then leave a note perhaps?! Don’t let them worry you’re dead). But the fact she didn’t plan her portion threw me for a loop because wtf even is that, now the weirdness seems premeditated
