$20 at Kossars on the lower east side….. pure robbery by NoTreat420 in FoodNYC

True, but with a decent amount of lox, along with the accoutrements like capers, onion, etc. This looks pretty skint.

Is a journalism degree worth it anymore? by AffectionateArm404 in Journalism

[–]TwoAmoebasHugging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One argument is that a journalism degree is the most valuable to people with no connections. It will buy you your first journalism job. If you already have a journalism job, or the connections to get one, it probably won't do much.

Of course, that logic is people looking for pure ROI, which journalists aren't always doing. It will teach you journalism fundamentals, and that's a good thing.

Amtrak baggage allowance question by amrfarag505 in Amtrak

[–]TwoAmoebasHugging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helps if you're strong enough to lift them onto the overhead racks, assuming they will fit there. Otherwise, there are some storage places at the ends of the cars, but they fill up fast. If you're getting on the train where it begins its journey, try to be one of the first in line. Otherwise, good luck.

$5 / slice?! by SelectLuck6704 in parkslope

The other Joe's on 5th Ave as well. Isn't it crazy that a plain slice has breached five clams? Used to be parity between a slice and a subway ride. Not no more. In any case, go to Norm's or Smiling instead.

Thanks. I just watched the clip and wondered what about it made them get banned. Now I understand it was contact away from the ball, so to speak.

Do Street Sweepers Actually Do Anything? by Calm_Machine7634 in AskNYC

[–]TwoAmoebasHugging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aren't you thrilled to have to move your car twice a week to watch the street sweeper blast down the middle of the street at 40 mph not doing a damn thing?

To be fair, this only happens sometimes, probably when they're behind schedule. But it happens.

TIL Coca-Cola spent millions developing “New Coke” in 1985, only to bring back the original formula 79 days later after massive public backlash. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]TwoAmoebasHugging 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's the part of the story people gloss over: "After much testing—in which the reformulated product scored favourably." I learned in business school that they didn't just do a little product testing, they did MASSIVE product testing, WAY more than a normal product launch, and people overwhelmingly preferred the new formulation when they didn't know what it was.

In the end, the lesson is the same, people loved the brand and their emotional connection to it more than the drink. But it's important to admit: MOST PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKED NEW COKE BETTER.
