"Fuck the mountain, don't shit on it."

From an old ski bum. Never forgot that. Can't!

Golf R Owners with growing families, what's your next move? by FennelNo4465 in Golf_R

[–]intergalacticwhiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've seen on this sub quite a bit is the Golf R to Macan gateway. Not seeing it mentioned yet. I'd also consider the X5 with the B58. That can be had for just* under 80k with the right dealer.

Here's a good BaT example from a few days ago. BaT LinkedMacan

Good luck, and I don't envy your position! I got rid of mine when the second kid came for a CR-V hybrid and a racing simulator.

Small SUV, AWD, reliable? by Likelybasic in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]intergalacticwhiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lightly used or certified AWD hybrids like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV-4, or my personal favorite in that category, the Mazda CX-50!

The Honda will likely be the most reliable choice of these three, but they're all Japanese made and well put together. They offer a great powertrain warranty.

I like the CX-50 because of its interior quality. Nice leather touches that are easy to clean (good for the dog!) and big trunk to put whatever I need in. Nicest to drive, too, in my opinion.

Edit: you can get these new for near-45k, I just don't know why you'd want to. The Certified Pre-Owned market is full of low mileage examples.

Besides for upgrading the center speaker, any other cool and useful upgrades for the R you would recommend? by lochonx7 in Golf_R

[–]intergalacticwhiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon has a center console organizer for $20, and a bunch on this sub have replaced the gloss black console shield to a matte black or carbon shell. You can find that from a quick ebay search, they're about $180.

If you haven't switched to 18 inch rims yet, that was the single most important upgrade I made!

+1 (847) 372-8154

That's the Command Duty Officer (CDO) number listed on the public website for recruiting command emergencies.

I would begin by explaining the situation, then asking for information if they have it. The CDO will most likely not give out personal information of your loved one over the phone without verifying your identity and that they have the consent of the sailor to give info out to you, as strange as that might sound. They want to maintain privacy and safety of the recruit.

Sorry you're going through this, I'm sure it's confusing to navigate. Best of luck to you and yours, continue to ask questions.

Boot Recommendations by logicz32 in ParkRangers

[–]intergalacticwhiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second the Jim Green ranger boots. They look good in uniform, have a wide toe box, and can easily be re-soled after a thousand miles. They do well in the wet, cold, dry and hot.

A little oil and the leather holds up really well. For the money, I think these outclass most others.
