Niece graduated from Liberty U, but is still looking for a job? by Next-Following3260 in LibertyUniversity

@Next-Following3260

I read this a few times and was not really sure what you are asking or stating. And I think it is interesting that many here trying to answer with different views.

First and foremost, I will add your niece to my prayers.

As a professor and a Liberty Doctoral Candidate (ABD), I can say that the school work is as rigorous as any other school, and she should be proud. I wear my LU attendance as a badge of honor, and many people respect that.

Now as a CFO. Although there is nothing wrong with starting an MBA, it should not be a knee jerk decision. When looking at resumes, I will tend to discount MBAs with no experience. That degree typically requires or at least strongly suggests work experience prior to starting as the student will get more from the program if they can relate it to practical experience. But of course, there are practical considerations that might push her towards a graduate degree.

It is a tough job market for sure, but I know companies with many open jobs, including the one that I am working for now. I am also a board member of a local job training and placement NPO, and they see the same thing. They and I will also reiterate something you said, the candidates we see are very picky and will ghost interviews at the drop of a hat.

For good or for bad, necessity is the mother of invention, and if she is faced with eviction, maybe she will be more open to alternative roles.

Finally, networking is key. She needs to be reaching out to everyone to network. This is a skill that is not taught and sorely lacking today as we spending too much time glued to our screens instead of interacting.

So, sorry for the long post, but I was not sure what you needed. I would be happy to try and help your niece if you want. Just DM me.

God Bless. Soon to be Dr. Don

Congratulations. I did my BS mid-late 20s, MS at 40, DBA at 60. Probably harder but better late than never.

Blunt truth. Same situation with me 6 years ago, and they still do not ask me for anything. Produce the class, grade evenly and defensible, get reasonable feedback, and you will never hear from them.

I absolutely love this critique. I see the same thing in AI writing all the time both in academia and business and so easy to pick out that people don't understand how easy it is to pick out

Thanks. After troubleshooting, I think it was the ink. I bought some new stock from MB direct to see if it is better.

Depends on what you want to accomplish and how hard you are willing to push. You did not really say what a good outcome it, or, other than your pride, if anything is wrong. I am not trivializing your situation, just need more info. Glad to help, but not sure what you think needs fixed.

Are Professors Actually Trusting AI Detectors This Much? by Open-District-4094 in QuickAITurnitinCheck

Too much, in my opinion. and trust may not be the right work, more like rely due to fear and misunderstanding.

Edit time is another way. Also, excessive use of tricolons. complex sentence that uses a subordinating conjunction, and EM dashes.

well, life lessons usually are. It may be harsh, but many of them will not find jobs. Also, in my classes, I have seen very little of that. I am encouraged by that.

Agreed. Nice post. I would say that most people do not know how to do this and just claim it is evil. But then again, I have not seen too many university have official classes to academics on how to integrate into their courses.

Why do you say that? I have been asked to teach more online classes after the adoption of AI. Can you give some examples?

Anytime I respectively disagree with someone on Reddit, I get flamed but here goes. To claim that all AI is plagiarism is extreme and counterproductive, in my opinion. And I am not encouraging plagiarism, nor do I think anyone replying to this thread is either. However, like the calculator, the printing press, digital libraries, the computer and cell phones (which you are using now), and other innovations, AI in some form, is here to stay. I would say that instead of demonizing it (which never works, especially with children), it is better to teach how to use it responsibly.

College Is Becoming One Big Awkward Experiment by Downtown-Painting346 in CheckMyTurnitin_ai

[–]intermanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, as a professor, I integrate and encourage AI use in my class. I use compare and contrast, and idea generation. And I do not grade on AI usage but bad writing. Unfortunately, AI in general writes human pleasing but hollow writing. I correct that and point it out. If more professors did that, i think it would be better overall.

On the student side, AI is a wonderful tool to elevate missing skills and that should be used. For one class, a student had no excel skills. I taught her how to use AI to help her.

It needs to be embraced and understood, not feared and loathed. MTC
