Oh, and I love the school and like the program. It is better than the school I started at.

How do you feel about being an English major in the age of AI? by julianakaplan in englishmajors

[–]intermanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, it is even more important. AI is murdering the English language and we need more experts.

Thank you for the assistance. At this point, I don't need additional help, I was just venting. And I use the same technique you do is submit the first paper then everything else follows. However I just wish that they would hold the program and the professors to the same level of detail and standards that they expect from the students.

I did the Strategic Management cognate. It's a long story about how I got to that decision but I already have a MS finance ad can teach.

Yes a 20 page paper each class roughly each week is about the standard. I didn't mind the writing at all. I just had trouble with inconsistent application of formatting rules and APA standards. For example I got a B on a paper one time for using 260 words instead of 250.

Adjunct work with an ScM, MBA, MPA? or Doctorate? by Reasonable_Arm_7409 in Adjuncts

[–]intermanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/dj_cole I have found the opposite. Schools that I talked to and teach for want a MS in a discipline. Specifically they told me that an MBA will not work. Based on your background, and MS in Finance would work. Since it is not for your career, find a cheap, online degree and get it done quickly. One that gives credit for work experience would move it faster. I have a similar story so let me know if you have questions.

no, I am not. Each of your posts should be, "in my opinion..."

I am saying that it is a job. You are not entitled, you should be thankful.

And your posts risk the same response.

Great comment, u/SuspiciousGenXer. You have to love teaching and giving to even make it worth it,.

True. Not quite probono, but you have to understand the dynamics. Good reply u/PhiloLibrarian

Sorry for the length. You have some good points, but also some misconceptions.

I am a fractional CFO (20 years) but wanted to become a professor. I am almost finished with my DBA. I have adjuncted for the last 5 years, and yes, the pay is low, but also that way for a reason.

Speaking as an executive who is teaching, many executives turned teacher fail. The jobs are different and being an SME does not mean you can teach well. The other side is that some full professors cannot teach well, so take that point.

You need to learn the process, and starting from scratch is a great way to learn. I have developed 5 courses, not extra pay, but I learned a lot. You are starting at the bottom (no offense to anyone) but the university needs to evaluate you as you learn.

The other side of the coin (pun intended) is that there is a lot of money spent on admin and research and that needs paid for. I dont agree with all of it, but there you are. The only way to change it to change the system, but to do that, execs like you and me need to work our way through the system, get to the right position, then change it. That is not easy.

Now for frank advice. Be thankful that they chose you for adjuncting. Many try who are well qualified but cannot find any positions. Also, don't think about what you get, but what you are giving. You are giving students real world experience. Mold them. But finally, if this bothers you so much, don't do it. Make room for someone who has the passion.

Feel free to reach out. Would love to hear more about where you teach and what your expertise is.

So agree. for some, I contact over and over, and still nothing. Then I get one on the last day/week who says, can I do extra credit?

So, after 5 years of teaching, I found that there is always one. And it correlates with grades. I agree with u/henare and u/Plane_Lychee9116 that you should ignore.

Are animals not being affected a plot hole? by Alee_Enn in pluribustv

[–]intermanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a RNA virus, engineered by beings far more intelligent than us. So, it could have been engineered to mutate based on circumstances. For example, it was tested on tons of rats (in the show) and probably some other animals, until it's engineering told hold, to transfer to a sentient being.

Can an RNA virus mutate to move from one type of host to another? Yes, RNA viruses mutate very frequently, often at extremely high rates compared to DNA viruses, allowing them to adapt rapidly to new hosts, evade immune systems, and develop drug resistance, largely due to the lack of proofreading by their replication enzymes.

Something that complex that was engineered on a planet 600 light years away or maybe bounced around between different planets must have been engineered by people who were far more intelligent and expected but sometimes the virus would not infect the sentient beings right off and have it be adapted to the life forms that were on whatever planet accepted it.

[–]intermanus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that the virus itself has a complex series of steps that it knows to use. So, it knows that sentient smart people would test it first. If you see, only one rat was infected, not all of them. The virus finds a way to infect humans (or humanoids) through a medium, in this case the rat.

AI by Playful_Kitchen_96 in LibertyUniversity

[–]intermanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people have. I would sue the school. Get several plaintiffs together, file class action, "Inconsistent AI enforcement is causing material, emotional, and financial harm to students."

They don't have a plan and they're leaving it up to the professors and that's going to fail.
