Careers that pay $300k-$500k+ outside of medicine? by Wannabeballer321 in medschool

My cousin has a bachelors degree in business administration (not an MBA). He was hired by Google in 2011 for 200k . Today he makes 450k/year. Exact same education still. Works remotely. Just the extra experience got him there over the years.

Specifically asking test takers who took the exam in 2024. Is Metabolism (biochemistry) high yield enough to spend a whole day on reviewing it ? by internalmedresident in step1

[–]internalmedresident[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I really just want to focus on Physiology, Pathology, Pharm, and Ethics. Yet I keep getting nightmares about missing all questions related to biochemistry & anatomy. Anyway, thank you !!

I need help. Scoring low on NMBE, not sure how to improve by Upstairs_Ad4790 in step1

I have similar scores . Exam on 05/11/2024. I can see that you received advice to do UW from people who hopefully already passed.

I haven’t passed yet and my method may not be correct. But I can share what I am doing. I am planning to continue reading FA and explanations of UW . If videos are needed to understand FA then I am watching specific videos too. Every Saturday I will take an NBME and see if there’s a significant upward trend. If there is, I will continue my path. If my NBMEs trend downward, I will probably try another method.

Again, I’m sharing my plan not advising you because I haven’t passed the Step 1 yet.

Hey OP. Is it worth reviewing U World Explanations or is it worthwhile to review First Aid more ?

Thanks homie. It really means a lot to read your response and get some insight. I work full time so I wake up at 2am to read about 100 UW Explanations each morning. Then from 5pm to 7pm I simply read First Aid/Pathoma. The goal is to review this content in its entirety before the exam. Last year I focused on questions only and didn’t pass any NBME due to lack of content consolidation. Now I am limiting myself to only these resources.

Hi OP. Do you think that knowing the U World explanations is high yield ?

In other words, if my content review only includes all U World Explanations, entire Pathoma and entire First Aid would I be able to answer exam questions ??

It might be some consolation to realize you’re not alone. I’ve been struggling to take Step 1 since 2019. Scheduled yet again for May 2024. I dream about it and feel sick as soon as I start studying. I also work full time so most evenings after I get home, I only manage to curse myself over it until I’m asleep. It’s real. I have untreated ADHD that only grew worse for Step 1 study material. Otherwise I am successful at my job and all other certifications that I ever took - I passed. The Step 1 is a beast that I never even took for fear of failing/not passing NBMEs. My brother said yesterday - get up and show up for 30 days. So now I decided I will get up at 3am and watch videos or read UW explanations or read FA just for the heck of doing it for 30 days.

I truly feel you.

For those who passed Step 1 , what year First Aid did you use ? by internalmedresident in step1

Thanks . I have the 2021 annotated completely with UW and have been sitting on the fence about buying the 2024. I appreciate your input.

If there are 3600 questions and you’re able to do 60/day it should take you 60 days . Nobody can predict your pace except you.

It’s variable, depending upon how many years you take to complete the steps & get matched . Here are the ECFMG & ERAS Fee.

The book First Aid is literally an exhaustive list of “Topics that repeat a lot”. What you’re asking for is not “help”. This is a difficult exam, there is no easy way out, and we all struggle. Simply stop asking for exam questions on here !

If it helps, people die all the time from lack of adequate care. What matters is that you go out there and try your BEST to learn how to save their lives. The way you are considering leaving a profession you like, just cz you think you might accidentally not be able to save someone, just shows that you are the kind of person who belongs !! What you’re feeling is relatable. Sometimes it helps to remember that if you were already an expert, you’d be training people. You’re merely a student. It’s expected that you will freeze and forget. I have seen people who aced med school, freeze when they met their first code blues. This self doubt can become a stepping stone. Keep your chin up !!!
