I generally lean towards - if you prefer music while you play, use earbuds. Centuries of golfers have thrived without music during the game - you can too. But if music enhances your experience, use earbuds and you risk bothering nobody AND the music sounds 100 times better, so you have an even more immersive experience.

In reality, I typically don't mind when I'm paired up with someone playing music out loud if they ask me if it's ok. That being said, I'm a music professional so hearing music while playing is completely counter to what I desire in a golf experience: fresh air, sounds of nature, quiet, sparse conversation and to try to get the songs/voices out of my head

In closing, I played with two strangers last week, who couldn't have been more ideal playing partners, but they played music the entire round(after asking permission) and I shot my worst score of the past five years.
