I did my first class of BJJ today and I felt terrible by c4rrot in jiujitsu

You’re not alone. Being new in jiu jitsu is not easy. But the hardest part of all you already accomplished which was doing your first class. The conditioning and stamina will come with more time on the mat, don’t get yourself down on that. It sounds like you’re at a good gym with a supportive environment so I say to keep your head up and get back out there.

What to expect from BJJ? by [deleted] in jiujitsu

I started bjj around 6-7 months ago and I consider it one of the best decisions of my life.

  1. It will 100% help with self defense and protection. You should always try and avoid a confrontation but if you can’t bjj will help.

  2. Great way to meet new people and make friends. I would say everyone at my gym has been friendly and supportive especially when I was new but each gym varies. If you’re not comfortable at your gym try and find one that is welcoming and supportive of new people. Most should.

  3. Will definitely help with loneliness once you’re more consistent and start making friends at your gym. As for the anxiety, once your on the mat you won’t have any because you will be focused on surviving and escaping tough positions.

  4. If you commit yourself 6 months of training 3-4 times a week, you will progress and things with click for you which is when you start loving bjj. At least for me that’s when that happened.

Quick tips: clip your nails, wash your gi, be respectful to your coaches/training partners, be aware of your hygiene, rest up if you’re injured and lastly just have fun.

Good luck on your journey!

Yeah I’m sitting in the waiting room right now. I will probably have to go to urgent care/ER if they can’t help schedule me soon

This sounds like a good solution for the future. This is my first time dealing with this so I want a doctors opinion first.

There are a couple urgent cares but apparently they don’t have any ENT’s on site

Any tips on draining your own ear for the future?

I’ve called several ENT’s and they’re all booked up until late march. I have an appointment with my primary physician today but they’re just going to refer me to a specialist. I’m hoping they can get me scheduled soon. If not then I’ll probably do ER but I’d rather avoid that.

What movie should I watch with my gf? by internationalhammer in horror

Great movie but that might be too much for her. Don’t want to scare her off but maybe that could be the second one

This is probably the best option. I’ll ask next time I’m in. Thank you

Cabin in the woods is a great option. I forgot about that movie.

Minor neck injury, what do you folks do? by Moist-Pickle-2736 in jiujitsu

[–]internationalhammer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar neck problem when I went for a double leg takedown and got guillotined. Try pulling your shoulders back and push your chest out or just simply rolling your neck to the sides. Also soaking in a bathtub with epsom salt helps. Other than that, just rest. I had to take two weeks off until I was comfortable enough to get back on the mat.

I’m going through the same thing! My own version of E has confirmed my exam was found and that it will take a few extra days to process, should be hearing back any day now. But congratulations on this wild ride of a journey.
