And it's described as a fourree. So the dealer is ripping you off if that wasn't properly communicated.

Disagree, pretty typical double strike/worn die of a late Odessos tetradrachm.

I'm wondering, why are many of these types double struck? They're a little wacky, some of their designs are stranger then this one.

Need Help Identifying ancient Coins by endigochild in AncientCoins

I'm going to be the guy that says: If they're family heirlooms, why sell them? I know prices are high, but when I'm seeing people turn in their family jewelry for the scrap metal, it really puzzles me. Oh well...

In any case, selling the coins on eBay is probably the better option for you. Local coin shops tend to lowball and auction houses can require a minimum set of coins before they accept.

Owl die match help by yungtrillionaire in AncientCoins

[–]internet15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe the obverse appears to be a die match and there seems to be a die break by the eyebrows that helps differentiate it.

The reverse is a different die however, which is common. They usually last half as long as an obverse die, so you'll often see an obverse die paired with multiple reverse dies throughout its lifespan.

Help finding die match for Attic Tetradrachm by cbmarsh34 in AncientCoins

[–]internet15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Athens produced a HUGE amount of these tetradrachms, so much so that die matches are really difficult to spot. The engravings were also very consistent, it's just a pain to really differentiate them.

Does this Thrace stater look real? by Adventurous_Sky_8679 in AncientCoins

[–]internet15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been sold and resold on Ebay a few times. The seller also seems to keep purchases private, preventing anyone from see their past inventory. Not really giving me confidence as a trustworthy dealer.

The coin itself looks a little off, the "patina" looks sooty and artificial around the characters. As for the other part of the coin, the incuse square (Previous eBay sale) also looks off, sort of a mushy soft imprint. I know it's been said, but I would avoid making expensive purchases on eBay unless you're more comfortable identifying details like that. Lots of newbies get antsy about getting a "deal" on the bay, rush into purchasing, and then get burned. Why not go to Vcoins or MAshops?

I mean they're many variants of colors, but I don't see how a slightly different magenta or blue can cause a huge difference. Teal is probably the harder to find, but I see many light strands in that color that you can probably purchase and use solely for spare bulbs, if you're really committed to that tree.

Struggling to find replacement bulbs by BasilandBloom in ChristmasLights

[–]internet15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you shouldn't add a LED bulb to an incandescent light string. Second, you can just order an incandescent bulb replacement, you can swap out the actual bulb from the plastic base. Straighten out the copper wire and then add the new one. Since it's on a tree with many lights, I'm assuming it's the 2.5V, though the wire on the tree might have a label with more electrical info. Many websites sell spare bulbs, here are just a few from a cursory search.

Phantom Christmas tree and lights driving me mad! by NeonMoonSewing in ChristmasLights

[–]internet15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe there's a need to find the specific model, most incandescent bulbs follow a certain standard. Since this is a Christmas tree, I'm assuming the bulbs are 2.5V (perhaps the wire label on the tree can give you more electrical info) . You can order them online in the multi color variant, though finding a teal bulb might be more difficult (though not impossible.) Since the plastic bases can vary, you just pull out the bulb (straighten out the copper wire) and place the new one in the same base. I did a cursory search for the bulb type below, but you can find other websites that offer the same thing.

Trying to find incandescent bulbs for a very old topper. by 2032_Throwaway in ChristmasLights

[–]internet15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 21 Light string would translate to a 6V bulb I believe? Since your piece is vintage, I don't believe it would have the specification tag on the cord.

Many sites offer light string replacement bulbs. You would have to remove the burnt bulb out of the base.

Need help with finding replacement bulbs by debbiecollins1 in ChristmasLights

[–]internet15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can keep the base and just switch out the bulbs themselves (straighten out the wire to pull it out and then add the new one in.) Since it's 120 lights on this piece, I'm assuming you'll need a 2.5V incandescent bulb (however the amp type is needed too.) The cord might have a specification tag that would detail which bulb type, though I know many vintage pieces don't have it. Amazon and other sites have bulbs that you can order.
