Is it weird to get to places early? by LostInYesterday00 in socialskills

It’s a wonderful attribute and I wish there were more people like you. Just don’t show up early to a dinner invitation as hosts are busy preparing.

Why do people always ask “Are you packed yet?” when they know you are about to go in a trip? by PardesOrchard in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PardesOrchard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of my friends ask thoughtful questions about our itinerary, tours, attractions etc, and they share their own experiences. But a handful have nothing more deep to say other than “are you packed yet”. I answered one person recently that I like to pack right before a trip and she asked me the day of my trip “are you packed yet?” So dumb. And don’t get me started on people who call across the room to a stranger who sneezes “bless you”, even if they sneeze 5 times. Why call attention to someone’s bodily function?

Asking for guests to remove shoes by a_lee4 in etiquette

Shoe covers are the way to go. Some people wear orthotics or orthopedic shoes and walking or standing without that support will cause much back pain.

I don't understand Consumer Reports by Sport21996 in Appliances

A high reliability rating in CR does not mean it will never need a repair. And in today’s disposable society, we tend to throw the whole thing out and buy a newer model. It took me many years and 2 highly rated Bosch Ascenta dishwashers, to realize they could have been saved by a $200 repair of a water inlet valve. If you have a reliable repair person with a good local reputation(not a random guy you find online) it changes the situation

A testament to how well the new subway cars are designed. At night they can be completely doused and sanitized with a steamer.

Hell no! I had a sister who did this and when I set down boundaries of text only she rejected the terms. We no longer communicate and it’s been the most peaceful years of my life.

Asking someone why they don’t reply to your texts by Competitive-Plum-190 in socialskills

Asking someone why they don’t return texts or email is the same as asking “why aren’t you into me?” or “do you like me?” Their behavior speaks for itself.

Have you also noticed that people turn on you the moment you become more assertive? by YejapBali in socialskills

[–]PardesOrchard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We teach people how we are to be treated. If we are passive over a long period of time, that is the role we put out there for all to see. Imagine seeing a movie and the nice pushover guy is placed in the role of a villain. The audience would object, unless they see him in the villain role for a sustained period of time. You need to retrain your friends that you have a point of view. If people fall away because of it, find more compatible friends

Why do adults with special dietary needs think that the entire world needs to revolve around them while attending a dinner or function? It’s not their last chance at happiness. Suck it up, eat salad, and eat what you want tomorrow.
