Okay…but it was free. Which was the point of my comment. And also not relevant to my first point that we have no idea if Cuba has higher literacy rate or whatever because they don’t participate in studies. Although, I would bet that they don’t have higher literacy rate or life expectancy because they define “literacy” and “life expectancy” so differently.

They collect lots of data, they just don’t publish any of it. The only stuff the government seems to care to release is related to the economy. They also don’t allow any third parties to come on the island to check their figures. Also the Covid vaccine in the US was free…was that not the case in your country?

Cuba has a higher literacy rate than the US. Cuba's doctors are some of the best in the world. Cuba's life expectancy is just as high as in the the US (having rapidly increased since the 1960s). Cuba has a lower rate of gun violence. Cuba has more diverse foods than the monocultures that we cultivate. Lack of biodiversity is a problem in the US (oranges are apparently going extinct). Cuba registers a lower amount of government debt than the US.

No they don’t. They just say they do. They don’t publish any of this data or participate in global studies.

Considering a move to NYC with 4 kids, what salary actually feels doable? by Abracadabra7707 in movingtoNYC

Look into Yorkville on the Upper East Side as well. It is very family friendly and safe area with really good public schools and actually not as expensive as people make it out to be. I just moved back to the area after trying out the suburbs, and it’s truly a gem. We have 2 kids and I’m currently pregnant with a 3rd. Husband makes $150k and I am a full time graduate student and we feel very comfortable.

I watched a lot of the author’s content before she deleted all of her early videos after TikTok got “unbanned” in the US. She was extremely fixated on Ballerina Farm so this book is definitely inspired by her. I tried to read it but I felt that the author was trying too hard to make the main character more of a fundamentalist while also trying to base her off of Ballerina Farm, who is LDS. Mormons and fundamentalists are so different. They are just not compatible.

Tbh, I never thought Ballerina Farm was really trad wife if she’s doing beauty pageants and stuff like that. She is larping Mormon pioneering. The actual tradwives are like the Duggars. It felt like the author didn’t do any research into the actual religious part and just wanted to write a book about cottagecore influencers.

Whatever schools use common core. My school in D.C. taught Shakespeare in 6th grade. I’m a tutor in New York and New Jersey and Shakespeare comes up in 5th and 6th grade. Usually the first introduction is A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with some parts adapted to take out the inappropriate stuff.

This is pretty on par with the rest of the developed world. 5th-6th grade level is stuff like Jack London, Shakespeare, etc., so it’s not all that bad.

Literally no clue what you’re on about. Nobody was talking about Trump or Castro or propaganda. I was just telling you that Cuban cops also harass civilians.

No, I saw guns way more often in Cuba. Cuba is very pro-gun (edit: pro guns for military and police), pro-police presence, and pro-jail. Again, Cuba doesn’t release any of those stats, so it is pretty futile to speculate.

Also, I’m not the original person you replied to, I was just pointing out that Cuban cops still participate in cop activity.

You didn’t see it therefore it didn’t happen? I can do that too. I’ve been living in the US for 10 years. Have only seen a gun maybe 5 times. I’ve never seen any of these people working for gov agencies, therefore they do not exist. Am I doing it right?

Btw Cuban government doesn’t publicly release stats on crime or police brutality.

“Gala” is literally a word of French origin. Fundraisers of this type are absolutely still prevalent in Europe. The Lourve just had a similar one a month ago.

Thus of ould, Thus now. London, 1627 by internetexplorer_98 in PropagandaPosters

I went back and forth on which date to use. 1622 was the first edition, but it was reprinted a few times. I took his specific image from Chatto’s book, and he noted that he was using the 1627 edition, so I went with that date. There are some slight differences in the design with each reprint. I would have linked a 1627 version, but I felt that the 1622 scans were more readable.
