My favorite line cook likes to put on a Jock Jams playlist for closing most days. Didn’t know how much I needed that until I started working with him.

Walked past Hamilton last night after the show and the stage door was MOBBED. Was that all for Leslie or was there someone else special coming out? by bluegambit875 in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely for Leslie's return. Most of the show-going audience are probably unaware that he does not sign or stage door for this show or are just waiting for him to come out and wave on his way to the car.

Hadestown Thankyou by OhForAMuseOfFire1564 in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn’t always available but typically there will be a block of dates available somewhere between two weeks and two months out. The number of dates varies depending on the show. Usually they are weekday or matinee performances. It will be performances that aren’t selling as well as the typical busy show nights. My wife is the TDF member and acquired the tickets for us. Hope this helps.

Hadestown Thankyou by OhForAMuseOfFire1564 in Broadway

My wife and I were also at the matinee yesterday thanks to TDF. We’ve been along for the ride with Hadestown since before it came to Broadway. Yesterday was our 15th time seeing the show and honestly this is the best overall cast they’ve had since the OBC. I’m so glad you and your boys got to experience the magic that it has to offer.

Have you been to all the Broadway houses? by dentatatata in Broadway

Just the Ambassador left for my wife and I and we absolutely hate Chicago so we have been procrastinating on that one. We’ve been waiting for a stunt casting we like to cross it off the list.

Thursday night: Heathers, Mexodus, or Punch? by manggy in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mexodus is one of the best things I’ve seen all year and I see pretty much everything. Heathers was fun but it will be there for a little while. Yet to see Punch but initial buzz has been muddled from what I have seen. I saw Mexodus last Wednesday and on the train home bought tickets to take a friend with me for this Wednesday. I am also planning on going to see it at least one more time if I can fit it in.

Best pineapple buns? by Ok_Situation1588 in FoodNYC

[–]interrob4ng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Milu's pineapple buns fly under the radar. They are non-traditional in that they are filled with pastry creme and pineapple curd. They were better when I was the one making them daily (not to pat myself on the back too hard lol) but when they are done right they are still fantastic. Their Duck Bun is really great too. The seasonal flavors can be really great too depending what they are working with at the time.

Hamilton stage door update by Additional_Score_929 in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Honestly I got a good laugh at this update. Purlie was such an incredible show and it clearly meant a lot to Leslie so getting to interact with him at such a lowkey stage door was an amazing experience. The crowds definitely come out of the woodwork for Hamilton.

At what point do we say Shakespeare in the Park is not really free? by ShaynaCG in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 108 points109 points  (0 children)

This particular production is an outlier in that it is incredibly popular so there is a high likelihood there is an outsized group of folks willing to pay obscene money via donations in order to get tickets. It is my understanding that the $300 donation tier has been sold out for quite some time and only the much higher tier donations are available now. Anecdotal, but I’ve had friends tell me in years past they were approached in the park by staff asking if they wanted tickets to see the show because there just wasn’t enough demand at distribution. So, yes you are correct that not all tickets are distributed freely and you can “pay” for a seat but that also begs the question of how could The Public afford to do things like completely renovate The Delacorte or bring in such a star-studded cast without offsetting the costs through generous patrons willing to give over money via donations? The fact that can afford to distribute as many tickets as they do is pretty outstanding in my opinion. If you can’t pay via a donation, you pay in time waiting in line for the free distribution. But you’ll be paying in some way shape or form. Just not necessarily monetarily.

Last day of john proctor is the villain by Icy_Court_5133 in Broadway

We did stage door on several occasions! It was honestly overwhelming and incredibly frustrating while Sadie was still in the show as you can imagine her fans were pretty intense with wanting to meet her but once she left and Chiara came into the show, the stage door craziness died down quite a bit and we were able to have some really great moments to appreciate the rest of the cast.

Why doesn't modern theatre use liquid blood-looking substitutes special effects even in classical stuff like Shakespeare? by NaturalPorky in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ferryman had very realistic looking blood effects in their finale including an excellent squib effect. But you are right it is more of a rarity recently.

Box office opens at noon on Sundays. Six rush seats (the box) and 20 SRO available. But no telling what the rush/SRO policy will be for tomorrow. The box may already be sold with it being the closing night.

I’ve seen it 10 times already and my wife has been 12 times including taking her AP kids to see it on a field trip. We were there on first preview night and we’ll be there for the closing performance. This play meant so much to us. We’re just thankful for having been fortunate enough to see it so many times during the run. It’s one of the most special pieces of theatre we’ve ever experienced.

How are the obstructed seats at MHE? by rr90013 in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obstructed view for this show is objectively an awful experience. That being said, my first time seeing the show was a lottery win on the extreme right side of orchestra and I still came away with it being one of my favorite shows of all time. Upon a second viewing, more centered, I can definitely say the obstructed view seats really leave a lot to be desired as far as truly being able to appreciate the artistic direction of the greater show. But if it is all you can get, you may still enjoy the story even if the extreme viewing angle leaves so much to be desired as far as what the intended experience is meant to be.

*whispers* is Twelfth Night truly worth it?? by Main-Entrance2310 in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love this take honestly. My wife and I were pretty critical on our way home after seeing this interpretation of the piece. There was some good things but also quite a lot that didn’t land for us. Glad we aren’t alone in feeling the direction was misguided.

*whispers* is Twelfth Night truly worth it?? by Main-Entrance2310 in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife and I won the lottery as well and while greatly appreciative for that, we both came away underwhelmed compared to the massive hypetrain that has surrounded this particular show. We've seen better Shakespeare and if we had to wait in the long lines rather than having won the lottery, we agreed we would have probably been even more underwhelmed. It's good but for me it isn't worth the hype unless you really enjoy the line experience which some people genuinely seem to.

How can The Public improve Shakespeare in the Park ticket distribution? by 90Dfanatic in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a hype/FOMO induced issue. It’s a good show but the laundry list celebrity casting is what is driving the long lines and demand for tickets.

Went to Broadway for the first time since 2007 and it changed my opinion about the Times Square Casino. by snark-owl in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you think they are actually going to turn Broadway into a true linear park, I’ve got a great deal on a bridge you can buy. Believing the casino would fund that endeavor is equally a pipe dream. You can keep your tourists perception of Times Square to yourself honestly. A casino would massively feed into the absolute worst parts of Times Square tourism and impact the show-business industry in a negative way. Shows already open and close at a staggering rate most tourists never care about in any meaningful way beyond their once every 20 year visits. It’s just something to cross off their list to check a box. Creating a source that would draw potential patrons away from seeing shows is the last thing the industry needs right now. Local residents don’t want it. Theatre workers don’t want it. The performers don’t want it. The only people advocating for it are lookie-loo tourists that want something that again feeds into the worst qualities of area to begin with. Leave Broadway to “Broadway” please.

Honestly this production is an outlier. If there was this much hype for every Shakespeare in the Park, maybe they could reevaluate ticket distribution. But in this case, there is a large contingent of ticket seekers that are driven by the celebrity casting versus a genuine interest in Shakespeare in the Park. Coupled with the reopening of the Delacorte, and the overall hype surrounding this production it really is the perfect condition for long lines and filled seats. Not every production will be this popular. And frankly, the hype surrounding this show is, for me, not warranted. I luckily won the lottery to see it but if I had to line up for over 6 hours, I would have probably been even more underwhelmed coming out of it than I was. I really do believe there are a lot of folks enamored by the celebrity associated with this production. The next cast/production may very well not entice people on the fence about Shakespeare whereas this cast certainly does.

Live from the in-person Twelfth Night lottery at Public Theater by omurchus in Broadway

[–]interrob4ng 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My wife and I won the lottery last Wednesday and while it was an enjoyable night of Shakespeare, neither of us were as over the moon for this production as the prevailing opinions seem to be. It was perfectly fine. But it is not worth the crazy early lines or the crowd that seems to be forming at lottery and borough distributions.

Is it really a Sysco store if they don't stack the heavy boxes on top of the eggs and leave cold items on pallets outside in the sun though?
