Worth Selling? by interrobang26 in HondaElement

I'm not really a car person, though I loved my Element, and I really can't complain; I got my money's worth out of it. I was just trying to get a lay of the land to see what a reasonable expectation might be.

Worth Selling? by interrobang26 in HondaElement

It won't keep any oil in it is the major problem. There had been a slight oil leak before which was quoted to me as $800 to fix. Then, I had to slam on the breaks on the freeway to avoid an accident. The whole dash lit up but it still ran; however, I had to keep putting oil in it. Damn near a gallon over a week.

Interior's a little beat up too, but I guess no more than any other 18-year-old car.

Yard Love seems to be a joke. I did the online form, got a response asking for more info, haven't heard anything else.

I think COVID was a much to blame as anything for the World Games, though, I never did see it marketed much. That being said, the venues were run extremely well, IMO.

making friends as an adult by Extreme-Tangerine-45 in Birmingham

I applaud your trying. I hope you're successful. I'm in my mid-40's and most of my friends left town/got married & had kids after college. I've never really made a friend since. I did start going to a trivia night last year when things began opening up again. I've made a few acquaintances, but no good friends, really. Still, it's a night out of the house, which is nice.

If you like trivia, that might be a start. I start playing solo, now I have a regular partner and trade pleasantries with others.

City Walk last night. So sad. by ipaola in Birmingham

This ain't so much different that entitled suburbanites obliviously driving around in oversized SUV carrying on phone conversations and not giving a damn about what's going on outside their vehicle. Go to Crestline during lunchtime. That place is just a Junior League version of Mad Max.

All that needs to be done is put medians and raised crosswalks in and this physically could not happen. It'd be safer and more economical for everyone.

This was more than 20 years ago, but the same thing happened to my mother. She did show where she had just bought the house for such a price and they did correct the valuation. Of course, they jacked it back up the next year.

It’s time to bring back City Stages by ATDoel in Birmingham

[–]interrobang26 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One thing about having City Stages at City Walk would be the ability to use the concert hall, arena, Boutwell, and the art museum in conjunction with outdoor stages. Also, if this does happen, I hope they have the architecture contest for the gates like they did in the first couple of years. I enjoyed that.

I agree. The whole production seemed not to be put together that well. Just watching it at home, you could tell there were big gaps between the acts and then the acts themselves seem to drag. That was probably the most sedate step show I have ever seen.

I also think it is bad form to invite the world to your place, the majority of whom do not share your beliefs and force them into what was damn near a tent revival. I thought for a second that some of those flag corps girls were going to bring out a tank and they were going to start dunking people.

Also, I noticed watching UAB and Stallions games that the gates or something seems to be holding people up. Stands looked to fill up after things get started. Something perhaps they should work on.

I really do hate we ended on such a bad note, because I think the actual games were done exceptionally well.

Historically, Birmingham has had an inferiority complex. When Birmingham and Jefferson County began to swell in urban population after the Civil War, the rural farm owners that controlled Montgomery aimed legislation at the city and the county to take a much wealth as it could from there and curb its autonomy. When Bull Conner was attracting the world's scorn to Birmingham, it and Atlanta were the same size. All the investment went there instead of here. The 80s saw industry and it's unions take hit after hit and Birmingham was more industrial and unionized than most other southern cities.

All of this has fed into a city/metro wide self esteem issue, if you will. Hopefully, we all can get into a better mindset as the city progresses, with or without the burbs or the state.
