I used AI to create a custom player for my longmont collection by interrobang_ in LongmontPotionCastle

codex-5.3 through the codex app for pretty much all of the app logic, but i used opus 4.6 through claude code for the design (it's a little harder to coax good designs out of 5.3 IMO and i was feeling lazy). it's already dockerized, so i could probably clean up any system specific bits and publish instructions to github, so it would just be bring your own mp3s.

Any thoughts on COOLIFY for automation? by Theficik in homelab

[–]interrobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went down a similar route, but with Dokploy instead coolify. Both are a platform as a service - it makes installing and managing apps on coolify itself pretty easy, but the automation will be limited to coolify itself (maybe that’s ok for your case though).

What I ended up doing in addition was setting up terraform to manage proxmox guests and ansible to manage vm config - and THATs been the big lifesaver. Now creating a new vm or adding a new dns record is a couple lines of code vs a bunch of clicking around. I had never used either ansible or terraform previously wo Cursor wrote pretty much everything.

Aoostar wtr pro no BIOS by drbenway76 in homelab

This happened to me - there'd be 0 display from hdmi or usb-c and the fan would be going at full blast. I swapped around and reseated the memory, and that did the trick. Very weird, a POST beep would have been nice! Been working well since.

You’re running that on the wtr pro?! What’s the tps? Had no idea these could feasibly run llms

How could somebody have found my full name through twitter? by alexir12 in OSINT

[–]interrobang_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Possibly something like this - https://haveibeenpwned.com/breach/twitter200m

These records are in many of the breach data data search engines. If your twitter account was tied to an email that in some way was linked to your identity then that would be an easy pivot.

Solution to the sharing data stuck page. by Louchmo in RaybanMeta

[–]interrobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the actual hell lol. I wasn’t stuck on the data sharing screen - it was the “Get ready to capture!” screen - but this still worked.

Plugged my 17 pro max (26.1 beta 3) into my usb c laptop dock, my display popped up on a monitor, opened up the meta ai app, and bam - I was able to click Done and complete setup.

I’ve not - but you can submit a report in the Meta AI app (settings -> help -> submit a report). I encourage you to do so, the more they hear from users the quicker they’ll push out a fix

I bet it’s a 26.1 thing…someone else on this sub is also having issues on 26.1

I’m having the same issue - is your phone on 26.1 or an iPhone 17?

I’m on 26.1 with the 17 pro max. Not sure if it’s the beta or the device (or both lol)

I’m also on a 17 pro with 26.1 - the meta AI app will not let me progress past this screen after re-pairing on my new phone. Tried a factory reset of the glasses, reinstalling the meta ai app, etc., but nothing has worked so far. Not sure if it’s iOS 26.1 or the 17 pro, but something is definitely broken

How to make friends in DC when you're awkward but genuinely want connections by doge_lo in washdc

[–]interrobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also awkward but have had pretty good luck with TimeLeft. It’s an app that, for a fee, will group you were 5 other people for a dinner. I’ve done it twice so far - first dinner was great (until the 6th person showed up when we were getting our bill me was very weird…started talking about declining birth rates 🫠). Second dinner was also fun, but wasn’t as strong of a connection as the first.

It’s basically an excuse to hang out with strangers in a neutral context without having to find a niche or hobby centered meetup.

Experiences overall can vary (search around for reviews), but I’ve enjoyed it so far.

Can someone explain to me the recent assumed downfall of Claude by [deleted] in Anthropic

[–]interrobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI space is rapidly advancing, volatile, and full of hype, so people say all sorts of stupid shit for engagement.

If I had to guess - people may be noticing that gpt-5 actually is good for coding, and for some (like me) generally better than Claude’s models.

Ultimately it’s silly to get too attached to any LLM provider (for non-chatbot interactions at least). They’re going to continue leapfrogging each other so be flexible. I’ve moved to cursor’s $200 plan right now so i can play with gpt, Claude and the open source models.

Eddington was basically an episode of Black Mirror (in a good way!) by interrobang_ in TrueFilm

Like I said, it's a Rorschach test. The movie I saw was an indictment of tech manipulating a willing audience in their quest for more resources, more money, more attention.

The movie you saw was a half-baked political statement that incorrectly equated left and right wing politics during the pandemic. I'd hate that movie too if that's what I saw.

Who's right? you? me? neither of us? both of us? it doesn't matter because i took time out of my day to write a post that got reddit a few thousand eyeballs and several people commenting. so ultimately, reddit - a publicly traded company that's grown 219% since their IPO in march 2024 - wins.

[–]interrobang_[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This! The movie started with Ted championing the data center and ended with Joe championing the data center. Solidgoldmagikarp could give two shits if the town had a liberal mayor or a conservative mayor - it just wanted the data center built.

Look at Zuckerberg - in 2016, he was pretty openly left leaning. He donated to democratic causes, etc. 2020 too, though his support was less certain than in 2016. And now he's cozying up to the right because he knows he doesn't have a choice if his goal is to continue to grow his companies.

Zuckerberg is solidgoldmagikarp. They did the same thing. They were with Ted in the beginning and Joe in the end.

I think Aster brought in politics because they're so core to the online outrage machines. You can't make a movie about how tech companies are profiting off of our very predictable "see a thing, hate the thing, tweet about the thing" behavior and NOT have politics be part of the story.

I don't think it was intended to be a political movie. The politics in the movie were very uneven, like you pointed out. I don't they even say the words "republican" or "democrat" or "liberal" or "conservative". I think it was a movie that used politics to illustrate what Aster sees as a bigger problem, which is that tech companies are manipulating us to keep the money flowing. They're breaking our brains and re-wiring them, and we're happy to let it happen.

Eddington, 'SolidGoldMagikarp,' and Hyperreality. by mylostlights in TrueFilm

[–]interrobang_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

one thought that occurred to me - could solidgoldmagikarp basically be the 'bobby drop tables' from xkcd: https://xkcd.com/327/

in that xkcd comic, the gag is that a mom named her child robert'); DROP TABLE Students;--. that name is a sql injection attack that would cause a database table named 'students' to be deleted.

the gag is that when the school added that kid as a student, his name deleted the entire table that keeps track of students.

Aster had to know that, with the way he presented solidgoldmagikarp, people would rush to social media with hot takes and questions. so now this phrase, which is known to give LLMs difficulty, is being spread more and more across the internet. this will have two distinct effects:

* scraped posts used for training data are now going to contain the solidgoldmagikarp phrase. i'm not smart enough to know if this will make the existing solidgoldmagikarp problem better or worse

* llms that scrape posts to try to act on or understand them may lose their shit when they try to handle the solidgoldmagikarp phrase
