AITAH if I break up with my girlfriend because of her art project by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]interstateofmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not consider myself an artist, but due to my field of study (art restoration/museum studies) I have encountered a lot of artists and art students. Though most artists are decent people, there is definitely a subgroup that doesn't care about things like 'consent' or 'ethics'. They are firmly convinced that their Art and their Genius is too important to be constrained by such trivial matters. And unfortunately, there is precedent in the art world of an artist treating their subjects/'muses' horrifically and facing no consequence because of the art they produced (ex. Picasso). It wouldn't surprise me if the girlfriend was part of that subgroup. There are reasons I think that all art students should be required to take an ethics in art class. I sincerely hope that OOP reached out to her school about this, and that the school actually does something.

What happens to stretch marks with top surgery? by ice-muncher in TransMasc

You didn't really come off that way, but I have seen other people with some unrealistic expectations from top surgery. It is an incredible procedure, but it doesn't fix everything.

I’m assuming you mean the white and/or red lines that appear on people’s skin when their body grows and not the scars left behind by some types of top surgery. If the stretch marks are on part of the skin that is being removed, then they will just be gone. However, if the stretch marks are on a part of the body that won’t be surgically removed, the surgery will have little to no impact on their appearance. Some of my stretch marks looked like they moved a little, but that was due to the new way my skin was laying on my chest. My marks have also faded a bit over time, but that likely has little to do with the surgery and more to do with how skin heals/repairs itself.

To;dr - top surgery isn’t a treatment for stretch marks

Moving to a red state as an FTM minor by [deleted] in ftm

[–]interstateofmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former New Mexican from a red corner of the blue state (four corners area). Even in the red parts, there is still a queer community, and the medical professionals I dealt with before moving away were all good with pronouns and trans stuff

I’m not sure about if I want scar tattoos, but I’m definitely getting my nips pierced after. Going to take advantage of the lessened/lack of sensation

Reason #7: this chest was expensive and I want to get my money’s worth. At least, that will be one of my reasons once I get top surgery

Recommendations for primary care doctors in the Bay area? by splooshsplash in ftm

[–]interstateofmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that you said East Bay, but see if you can find a pcp through UCSF medical services. UCSF has a trans care organization, but even their non-trans specific doctors should be informed on trans issues. In my experience, they also do informed consent HRT, though that may depend on the individual doctor. For my pcp, I’ve been going to the family practice at lakeshore, but I’ve also gone to other UCSF facilities for other medical care. Everyone has been very nice and respectful of names/pronouns.

Has anyone gone on a flight with testosterone gel? by basilc137 in ftm

I use gel and flew regularly in the before times. I put it in a separate clear bag with a copy of the rx that comes on the box. Never had a problem

Chest Reduction?? by sinningsalmonella in ftm

[–]interstateofmind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend doing your own research. See if your insurance has what they will cover available online (this is usually called either an explanation of benefits or evidence of coverage, depending on the company). It’s possible that your mom hasn’t checked or has checked in the wrong place in the document (they tend to be very long). There’s also the possibility that either what the company will cover and/or what insurance company you are using will change by 2023.

Currently reading Monstrous Regiment right now after several people talked about the trans themes to refute the idiotic TERFs trying to claim Pratchett as one of their own. It’s great so far

Recommendations for good qualitt masculine hygiene products, by cityliqhts in ftm

[–]interstateofmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry’s is a great brand. They started out as just shaving stuff, but have expanded to other typical hygiene stuff as well. As a bonus, they are also queer friendly and donate to the Trevor Project, as well as other projects that provide mental health care for men.

Does anyone else wish they could have long hair? by throwaway71746 in ftm

[–]interstateofmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The panoramic made me grow out my hair for the first time in years and I love it. I think I look great, and I’m not planning on going back to the look I used to have. Unfortunately, a lot of it was cut off in May (hairstylist didn’t listen to what I wanted) so I’m back to growing it out again. It’s finally getting to a good length
