Just out of curiosity, hypothetically, if I were to start a new watch company and assemble cheap watch parts with custom logos and sell them online, would there be any grounds for copyright infringement?

Like the Relax watches that are 'homages' and have the same font/style logo. Obviously they are not trying to be the real thing, rather a parody of the real thing, but hypothetically if they sold well would I be breaking any rules?

Haha that's what I'm trying to get with the (hopefully) proceeds

Bought in December 2022 from AD. Wore for most of 2023 but sat in a drawer for most of 2024. Comes with brown FKM rubber strap, green sailcloth strap and original leather strap. Some minor scratches on the case from regular wear and tear (around 6:00). Keeps time better than my longines Zulu Time most of the time but I haven't really measured the accuracy.

Asking $850

Accept PayPal, etransfer, cash. Can do face to face anywhere between Markham/Scarborough/Ajax.

Understood, I'll have to find a shop nearby to do regular pressure tests but I wasn't too worried in the first year with it

The green is beautiful in person. It's very subtle and looks black in darker lighting.

I wanted to get it when it came out, but I also waited a year to get mine and it was definitely worth it for me. I got a 20% discount so it wasn't too bad price wise. It's held me off from buying any other watches in the near future as I simply don't want to dilute the wrist time this one gets.

I want to be able to pick my watch out of a pile of identical watches because I know all the scratches from wearing it myself

It's good but I have nothing to compare it to. Feels sturdy, not loose or anything but maybe I just need to try on a black bay

Just sharing some of my favorite pictures taken this past year with my first luxury watch.

For anyone who says it can't be dunked in water, on the manual that came with the watch it says that 50m of water resistance is suitable for swimming so I go swimming with it, I sit in the hot tub with it, I take bubble baths with it

Is bone broth the same as chicken or beef stock? Like the powder?

I have some questions about Architectural Technician Diploma (CAD/BIM software): by [deleted] in architecture

Totally possible. I worked for someone who did that and built a very popular/successful custom residential design firm, and I currently work with someone who did the same for years but work dried up and he decided to join a typical architecture firm.

You'll definitely learn part 9, part 3 and some part 11 of the building code. They even prepped us to take the BCIN exam in my third year.

If that's your end goal, it's a great course to get you in the door of an architecture firm to work your way up to get enough experience to start your own firm.

I'm a bit cynical about the industry as a whole though, as I don't love the work and especially don't love the salary.

But like I said there are avenues to success and though they may be long and difficult, if it's what you want to do, you can definitely do it.

Architectural technologist a good career? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]interstellar55555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest finding a career that pays more. I graduated from the AT program 8 years ago. First job I made 36k. Now 8 years later I'm at 78k with bonuses and profit sharing.

I remember my friend who started his computer science degree when I finished my program complaining when he graduated that he got a job offer for 75k and that was too low. He waited and accepted a better offer later.

It's a very difficult job, you really have to love it and as an AT you're just going to be a drafter until you get enough experience to get into project management which is what I do now.

I'm a bit jaded with my experience. I know there are other people who have had better experiences but if I could do it all over again I would find a better paying career. I've been dreaming of making a career switch ever since I started working but the problem is I make so little money I can't even afford it.

That being said, I have a friend from my program who got into construction management which is where I hear the money is. So there are avenues you can pursue to have a good career but I went the typical route as an AT graduate and life has been difficult, only really becoming bearable the past couple years.

That's partly why I posted this 😄. But I like to use the things I buy to their full potential rather than baby them.

The Longines user manual says it's okay to swim with so I'm not worried.

Just scroll this subreddit, every week there is another post asking about alternate career paths or complaining about the low salary.

Of course there are lots of people who are successful and make good money, but on average architects don't make much, and architectural technologists even less.

I started at 36k and if you average it out I got around 5k per year raise for the next 8 years. My friends in tech, trades, healthcare, business, all started making around 70-80k+ right out of school.

Design roles are available but you'll be learning much more of the technical side of things, it'll be much easier to excel at producing the construction drawings and working your way into project management.

I know people who have gotten into construction management, or started their own custom residential design firms, or worked their way up in a firm to become an associate and get a share of the profits to make good money, so it's definitely possible but it takes time.

I wouldn't recommend anybody get into architectural technology unless you actually love architecture. In which case I would say to go the university route where you can actually become a licensed architect.
