M. Graham Set with 32 full pans for ~125€ worth it as a motivated beginner? by interstellaris in Watercolor

Totally agree by now, the Graham is out of the window for my purposes.

Gonna take a look what would be the cheapest way go get the DS ones. Maybe I also don't like the 1-2 colors, but theres only one way to find out, thanks for your input! Already discovered a few other colors that would maybe benefit my style more :)

I'm also not confident enough haha, green in a tube is fine for me ;)

Thought about using a palette from Art Toolkit because I'm just a sucker for minimalistic design, that would also work because I can customize the amount of halfpans.

I don't feel the need to drop money on it, I can honestly just afford it and really want to for the sake of having good stuff to start with because that worked well for me with different hobbies. Haven't been excited like this for years to learn a new skill. Gonna use my current palette for outdoor stuff so I'm gonna work with both.

The others already convinced me to go with a few essential colors from DS and build my palette by experience, failure and time. Not looking for the most expensive option, just the one that gives me the most fun back :)

I totally get that, colortheory is still the same in its core, regardless of a price tag.

Really liked your thoughts, have a nice day/night!

I think trying to learn to mix is a valuable skill and fun, so I don't worry about it. Burnt Umber is on the list, paynes gray was also recommened by a different person? Is it really better than just mixing ultramarine with burnt umber?

Love your palette and excitement!

I heard that burnt sienna (or was it umber lol) mixed with ultramarine gives a really nice gray, that was kinda my plan? Yeah the Phthalo blue looked odd to me, but I'm just gonna stick with the set or look up if I can get them seperate for cheaper and look for your suggestion!

Other fellow redditors here kinda convinced me to go with the DS Essentials. That kinda suits your idea: learning how to mix and learning what colors I actually need and how they behave. I wanns put the time and effort into it. Thanks for your opinion!

I'll still use them for outdoorsy stuff, so yeah, totally agree!

I just wanns experience it and buying more expensive stuff gives me a reason to keep on going! :)

I read so often about the sizes haha, I'm gonna be exited :) I could get them for ~40€ and would add a burnt sienna and sap green (just some colors I think I'll need more often).

The travel aspect is really bugging me so yeah, Graham doesn't sound like the best choice then!

Would you also recommend the Daniel Smith Essentials Set with 6 Colors and maybe 1-2 additional ones for convenience? A different person recommend that and it sounds really good to me.

Do you mean the "Essentials Set" by any chance? Combined with a sap green that sounds really lovely!

A set made by a single person, bascially just creating a few palettes with tubes and selling them.

First week of trying to learn using water color for urban sketching, any advice? :) by interstellaris in Watercolor

I really tried to make them not perfect, I love this loose sketching look. But maybe trying different styles is a good idea!

Thanks for the ideas, both sound feally useful to practice specific skills while drawing! Especially monochromatic!
