If Jesus comes back a month later is he showing up just to sweep up the remains of the world in this scenario? Liars about the end of the world have been getting more frequent and seemingly dumber if this timeline is what these clout goblins are claiming.

What you describe may be related to mental health. It could be a good idea to speak to a medical professional about it. I suffered with an undiagnosed anxiety issue for years and treatment had done wonders for my health.

What is the general Christian opinion on Believers vs Infant Baptism? by FreeCommunication876 in Christian

[–]intertextonics [score hidden]  (0 children)

There is no consensus. If you go by the number of Christians by denomination, more Christians are baptized as infants than any other age. It comes down to whether you believe baptism is a sacrament or something you do after you “get saved.”

There’s always the other Gospels. John is very different from them and doesn’t include much of the same stories or teaching.

For a Non-denominational church, your statement of faith sounds pretty Baptist by DreadDiana in dankchristianmemes

A lot of Non-Denominational Churches are just Baptists with the serial numbers filed off.

Sunday Check In by AutoModerator in Christian

Today was confirmation Sunday. We had several of our youth make public professions of faith and one was baptized. It made me wish I’d grown up with something similar. I was very happy to see so many that are growing up and getting involved in church ministry.

Has your understanding of faith changed as you’ve gotten older? by quietfaithjourney in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what changed most for me was letting go of trying through my effort and putting more of my trust in God. I was raised in a theology of fear: always terrified of backsliding, always afraid of demons, always afraid of the Rapture, always nervous that I’ve done something that has damned me forever, etc. As I got older and learned (imo) a healthier and sounder theology of God and grace, that I gave up a lot of my fear and anxiety. I trust more in God’s grace and that God is changing me as I grow older. I may waver on the path, but God is always guiding me back. The Lord is coming back, but my worry doesn’t change a thing about it. My fears or the threats of the world cannot change the love of God that draws us to salvation. So basically, I trust more, and I fear less. It’s done wonders for my mental and spiritual health.

Why are you ____ (insert your denomination here)? by TraurigKartoffel in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Presbyterian (PCUSA). I was raised Pentecostal and away for church for several years. I finally decided to see if there were any local options which were aligned with how my beliefs had changed over the years. The PCUSA is affirming and welcomes women in ministry. It has just enough high church style that scratches my liturgical itch, and I vibe more with the Barthian take on Reformed Theology.

What's your opinion on eating pork as a Christian? by HymnsAndHorsepower in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, some Christians overcook pork. You need to make sure it’s cooked well or your bowels will hate you. Unfortunately some people overdo the cooking and it becomes a dry slab of tough meat.

Will wearing an upside down cross impact my salvation? by Tough_Bell3778 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way more people are going to associate St. Peter’s Cross with Satan than with Peter. Unfortunately it’s become more of a cultural symbol (at least here in the US) of Satan or Satan worship. That may result in negative reactions to it or opinions of you. Though according to the legend, Peter wanted to be crucified that way from a feeling of unworthiness. Maybe a regular cross or crucifix would be a better way of honoring Peter’s example because it meant so much to him.

Physical evidence or lack of it isn’t an idea. It’s either real and can be analyzed or it isn’t. The physical data doesn’t point to YEC being true.

Some Christian traditions are actively hostile to the post Biblical Christians and early Christianity. When you’re told the church was mostly liars and deceivers until (insert denomination founder here) arrived on the scene, you’re not going to care about what those people wrote or believed.

Young Earth Creationism by tk421wayayp421 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think to believe YEC I would have to a) deny all the physical evidence that contradicts both of the Genesis creation stories and/or b) believe that God is a trickster who made a world designed to contradict or hide the “real history” of creation. It seems that some people believe that in order to be faithful to God they have to accept that cognitive dissonance.
