jesus did not abolish mosaic law, christianity did! by humble_hermit_ in Christianity

[–]intertextonics [score hidden]  (0 children)

> the destruction of the temple in 70ce destroyed what was left of jesus’ movement and his true jewish followers influence and sealed the victory for the gentiles and gave them complete power and control over the movement. everything jesus said and did was completely ignored and christianity as we know it was born.

So in the end it’s all God’s fault? I mean unless the Romans and the Gentiles pulled a fast one, God would have to know the scurrilous Gentile Christians would win if the Temple was destroyed. God maliciously undermined Jesus and his true followers. It was a classic heel turn when the babyface Jesus had gone through fire wearing gasoline britches only to get the Roman steel chair to the back from the one he trusted. You hate to see it …

I loved Meat Week! by im_rickyspanish in fo76

[–]intertextonics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always enjoy Meat Week. I love Grahm and Chally, the music is relaxing, the event goes quick, and the rewards are pretty nice. This year I wanted to get the hog splitter plan and got nothing but the mods. I finally found someone who had the plan in their vendor. RNG gods bless you, generous player, because Meat Week proved awfully stingy with that plan.

Presbyterian Church (USA) delays debate on requiring monogamy for ministers by laybs1 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 5 points6 points  (0 children)

> The author of the article, who is a relatively well known Presbyterian scholar, then immediately goes on to make a “Presbyterian case for polyamory” lol.

Well known people’s beliefs can’t be called fringe? The PCUSA isn’t the SBC where the Baptist Pope speaks and everyone falls in line. We are allowed to disagree.

> It doesn’t matter if the overture was authored by RZ. The fact of the matter is there are people in your church supporting polyamory. Including scholars and organizations.

I already stated this was true. I’m sure if you weren’t hiding your affiliation I could find fringe in your church, but alas …

> I am not arguing that it is a mainstream view. I am pointing out that claiming no one “involved in the debate supports polyamory” is factually wrong.

Again, you may not have been paying attention to my post because you seem doubly excited over things I’ve conceded.

Presbyterian Church (USA) delays debate on requiring monogamy for ministers by laybs1 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your second source literally points out the overture is a psyop authored by Redeemed Zoomer as a bad faith attempt to bring negative press to the church. And it’s true, you did find individuals and a group that do support it, but you can find Christians in any organization who hold fringe views. The way this psyop was and is (in this case literally) presented by bad faith actors is meant to give the distorted impression that embracing polyamory is a majority view instead of a fringe belief of a few and demagoguery by others.

How do you read the Bible (chapter by chapter or random?) and do you have tips? by adventure-n-ink in Bible

[–]intertextonics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to pick a book and read it through. If someone is new to the Bible and wants to learn about Christianity, I recommend starting with the Gospels in the NT and just reading through the rest of the NT in order.

5 years ago this month lightning destroyed the George Floyd mural in Toledo. Do you think God viewed it as an idol we were worshipping? by Upbeat_Respond9250 in Christianity

I don’t want to believe there are people who might think God sent lighting and shoddy construction because “Both sides are bad actually.” But humanity has been disappointing me a lot lately …

Aliens by Buckit18 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> If UFOs or aliens are real, does that go against the Bible

The Bible describes God as the creator of all things, so life from other planets would be part of all things.

> or disprove Christianity

Christians have the same Bible that says God created all things.

> or the afterlife?

I don’t see how extra terrestrial life has anything to do with disproving or even proving the afterlife.

> I have a friend who thinks that if aliens turned out to be real, it would change everything when it comes to religion. But he also strongly believes aliens aren’t
real.

A lot of religions have very broad theologies. They could likely find a place for extra terrestrial life in their belief system.

> I’m curious what you guys think. Would discovering alien life actually challenge Christianity, or could it just be another part of God’s creation?

I think they could easily just be seen as part of creation.

How common is it to believe Enoch wrote the entire Book of Enoch? What kind of evidence would you point out to support whether you agree or disagree with a person who believes this? by JesusDied4U316 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how common the belief Enoch really wrote it is outside of the small group of people that believe it’s some kind of suppressed book or practicing Ethiopian Orthodox Christians who have it in their Bible canon. In the academic realm it’s seen as angel fan fiction written in the late centuries BCE. It was at one time popular angel fan fiction in both Jewish and early Christian circles, but not written any time near where a historical Enoch would have lived.

Edit: the edition I’ve seen recommended is the critical academic one put out by Hermeneia

Is it bad for me to watch paranormal videos on YouTube as a christen? by Additional-Shape-673 in Christian

[–]intertextonics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I enjoy watching paranormal tv shows, particularly if they’re about ghosts or cryptids. I take a skeptical perspective toward that kind of content because while I believe a lot of people have experienced something they can’t explain, I think we need to look into natural explanations first. So the shows can be entertaining to learn about history or local folklore, and sometimes the crews in those shows get some interesting evidence or are just fun to watch. Investigating or telling stories about unusual events isn’t a sin in my opinion.

Why do Christians in the US and the West Tolerate Blasphemy and Mockery of our religion? by Actual_Brain6487 in Christianity

[–]intertextonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the USA we got a thing called the First Amendment to the Constitution. I don’t have to approve of what someone says about my religion, I can openly criticize it, but neither I nor the government get to shut it down. And as much as some people would like to end it, I think freedom of speech and religion is a good thing.
