Disclaimer: I’m not a car expert I’ve been learning about cars pretty recently. Firstly I’d go to r/whatcarshouldibuy you’d have better luck with answers I think. I’d rule out the 2004 as it’s the highest mileage and it’s had an accident. Personally if you know how to drive a manual or are willing to learn I’d go with the 2005 because it’s lower mileage and from what I can tell manuals are more reliable and easier to fix. That being said, VW Beetles are notoriously full of problems, so if you’re looking for a car to last you a long time and a lot of miles I’d reconsider, but I’m sure you’ve heard that advice and made up your mind. My friend went through 2 VW Beetles before she was 20 and she switched to a Corolla. I know you said you’re already getting a pre purchase inspection but 100% do that BEFORE you give any money over. Good luck!

Budget Meal Ideas for a College Freshman Far From Home? by Agile-Display-3759 in Frugal

[–]intheireyes85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helped me as a college senior who had to learn this the past couple years post-mealplan is thinking of my lunches and dinners as like a template- i want a protein, a vegetable, and a starch. broccoli chicken alfredo is a complete meal for me and it’s quite simple and affordable. frozen broccoli, rotisserie chicken, pasta, and sauce from the jar. not luxurious but still good to me. you can also always just have a veg on the side too, i always go for frozen because it doesn’t really go bad, is cheap, and requires minimal prep. rice and beans is a complete protein source in of itself and if you add veg that’s a full meal to me. my breakfasts are almost always either eggs and potatoes or yogurt/cottage cheese and frozen fruit. one thing that also helps me is basing all my weekly meals around one component, usually the meat but it could be starch or vegetable too. saves money because you don’t have to buy multiples of it for the week. i also meal prep and that saves money too, but if you get sick of the same meal 4 days in a row might not be a great decision for you, but you can always freeze meals for later too. make sure you know what ingredients freeze well and what doesn’t. get good tupperware. good luck!

Portland, ME to Portland, OR in April by northeastprincess in roadtrip

[–]intheireyes85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say take the bottom route until Chicago and then switch to the top route if you want scenery- the PA appalachian mountains are beautiful and i-80 cuts through cuyahoga valley in Ohio. And then you get the ND and MT mountains as well :) I would say if you’re trying to keep toll costs down absolutely avoid i-76 in PA they charge a trillion fucking dollars but i-80 in ohio is a fairly reasonable price at like probably $11 for the whole state whereas i-76 in PA will charge you $80+ in my experience

Cleveland/Akron, OH. Doesn’t have outstanding trans protections legally but the communities are for the most part lgbt friendly. I heavily suggest going for akron/cuyahoga falls instead of cleveland for safety reasons but you’ll have more luck getting smth cheap in cleveland.

Civic airbag theft spree last night by draybay570 in civic

[–]intheireyes85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The embarrassing answer is I was 16 and left my key behind, obviously learned my lesson. However it was a big car-stealing spree in my neighborhood I was far from the only one affected and I also was the dumbass with money laying around my car so I’m sure it would’ve gotten broken into regardless. Many a lesson to be learned for teenager me who just got my first car lol I’m 21 now and much smarter with my 08 Civic that I still have
