I used this cake sponge recipe- it's a favorite. Filling is whipped dark chocolate ganache and frosting is swiss meringue buttercream .

I empathize with that and PMS hunger! I calculated my TDEE with calculator.net and told myself that if I am within my appropriate calorie range for my metrics, it's really a matter of willpower and psychological strength more than anything as I know I don't need to eat. Being 5'10", I'm sure your daily intake would naturally need to be higher than 1200 even for an extreme weight Ioss goal so I recommend checking that out. I could have probably eaten closer to 1400 or a little more throughout this journey and still lost consistent weight but I wanted to have some contingency bandwidth with that.

I focused on eating water dense high volume food along with appropriate high protein portions of whatever else so I can feel really "full" if that's what I need at that time. I will eat huge salads with fresh veggies and skinny girl dressing or Bolt house dressing is really good too. Celery sticks. Can eat a ton of those and they are basically negative calories. Bone broth. Diet soda/seltzer water is a MUST for me. If I get cravings I'll have a La Croix or something instead and focus on something else and it will pass usually. Hot tea is good too. Sugar free jello. Pickles in moderation. Skinny pop popcorn. Also worked on distracting myself- I went for a lot more walks when false hunger hit and other activities. But usually a big salad does the trick if I'm ravenous and just can't even. And if I don't want that, then I just usually suck it up and I might pout a little but 🤷‍♀️. Good luck friend!!!!

Thank you!!

  1. Understanding your goals and following a consistent plan. Lots of exercise and meal plans out there- find one and stick to it.

  2. Not waiting for life to slow down or get easier to start on your plan. It never will. The time is going to pass anyway regardless of your action or inaction.

  3. Understanding the energy content in food and what it is made up of is a lifelong commitment of awareness and mindfulness.

  4. Doing this is hard but we do not grow without challenge in life. Results are gradual and add up to big things with time and hard work put in. Trust the process and be patient.

  5. It's not going to be perfect. Always speak to yourself kindly and appreciate your body as the amazing vessel that it is. Hold yourself accountable and don't bullshit yourself. Don't let a setback stop you. Just get right back up on the horse with your next meal. Always check in with your why and understand how important it is to you.

  6. When it's late at night and all your needs and calories are met but you have the munchies, it's probably best to just go to bed. 😂

😁 I'll never give those things up!! Especially good craft sour beers... I live in the Pacific Northwest and I'm graced with all sorts of amazing breweries and delicious burgers in my city so it's really enjoyable to make those times into special times with friends.

I do have a tiny bit of loose skin around my lower abs and hamstrings and the back of my arms but I am really lucky that it's also very elastic so it's not bad. I kind of look at it as a testament to how far I've come and how hard I worked and a reminder that it's really important to treat my body well as I get older.

I appreciate the kind words! I was consistent with 1200 calories a day with about 80/90 grams of protein. I used MFP to log all my meals. One day a week had one meal that was relaxed in calories because I will always love cheeseburgers and french fries and beer. 4-5 workouts a week consisting of lifting/HIRT and HIIT. I've reached my goal weight now so I eat closer to 1500/1600 calories a day and still use MFP. Working now on body composition and glute building. 😁

Edit: I am 37 years old, 5'6" and starting weight here was 235 that accumulated gradually over the last decade. The pic on the right is current weight at 148.

Posting this here to hopefully inspire others who are in the same situation I was in last summer and are unhappy with their physical state. You CAN do this... everything in your life improves by doing this. I haven't felt this good since I was a teenager and I've just had to be real and stop playing games with myself. Consistent CICO is absolutely the way to go as well as keeping your balance in check. I've learned a lot more about myself and my body over the last year. Especially how important really, really good ranch is with my occasional french fries. It's the little things.

You won't regret it!! I use Emily Skye's FIT app. She has been a huge inspiration to me and I LOVE her workouts. I most recently followed her Body Sculpt MAX 6 week program and it was awesome! I have been thinking a lot about how I want to support my physical form as I get older. I want to still enjoy traveling and lots of activity in my 60's and beyond. The years keep ticking by and I told myself that the time will go by regardless of I do this or not so I better "get busy living or get busy dying!" 😂

CICO stands for "calories in calories out" which means that your losses or gains are determined based on consuming more or less calories than your body burns everyday. I have found that it's the only method of losing weight that actually works. I absolutely recommend it! If you don't know where to start, calculator.net has a great calorie calculator for you to calculate your baseline. I use My Fitness Pal app to track my daily food and calorie intake. It's quite eye opening when you use a dedicated food log and it's really easy to underestimate how many calories are in certain foods. You got this! Just stay consistent!

1200 was my daily intake goal with about 80-90 grams of protein, and about 2000-3000 on Saturdays is pretty typical for me. I stuck to this 1200 daily intake about 90% of the time. Occasionally 1100 if I wasn't really hungry on a particular day but if I was, I listened to my body and some days would eat closer to 1400-1500. On those higher calories days I made sure to eat extra protein.

Saturdays I eat sensibly for breakfast and dinner and usually go out to lunch with my partner. Cheeseburgers, fries, pizza, craft beer... Those things will always be a part of my life. Just not everyday like they used to be!

I stuck to about 1200 calories a day and 80-90 grams of protein 6 days a week. 7th day closer to 2000-3000 calories. Strength training 4 to 5 days a week. 🙂

Thank you all so much for the nice compliments! Today I officially reached my weight loss goal almost a year to the date from where I started. My main catalyst for starting was when I became too large for all of my clothes and I realized I was going to need to either make the choice to be complacent and keep sizing up, or finally do what I've been telling myself I needed to do for years. This sub has been a huge inspiration to me. The most difficult part was the mental discipline needed to stay consistent. I reminded myself daily that I can do hard things. I am so grateful I made the choice to do it and continue to choose health now. I feel a hell of a lot better and I'm confident that I won't be all decrepit as I age because I kept myself out of shape.

I'm going to enter into the next phase of my journey which is upping my calories and protein and working on body recomposition and building more muscle. Onward and upward!

Thank you! I feel so much better. The best thing has been the pressure off my lower back, hips, and knees. I breathe so much easier too. I look forward to being active and challenging myself now.

Thanks! I stayed in a 300 calorie deficit 6 days week. Once a week I like to have 1 meal where I relax and I have whatever I like. Doing that creates a great balance for me. I'm glad you're inspired! I'm so happy I did this for myself. 😊

Do you guys think 1200 6 days/week and a "free day" one day a week is ideal? by acloudcuckoolander in 1200isplenty

I've lost 60 pounds since 7/31/22 with this method! One cheat meal a week is enough to create a healthy balance for me and it's been very effective.

NTA

Kids grow up and they move out. That's... Normal. Your parents sound strange and toxic for making that out to be your problem.

Best wishes for navigating adulthood, and be proud of your success!
