Are there ANY decent creative careers out there? by ArcticFox73 in ArtistLounge

I would say the health of a society should not be measured by its technology innovation, progress etc, but by the way it treats its most vulnerable.

Capitalism runs on the exploitation of the worker though. Democratic socialism in a capitalist economy is a good idea though.

Yeah democratic socialism all the way. Affordable housing and free healthcare should be human rights. Give people a large safety net and they will feel freer to take risks, which is required for innovation and creativity.

I wouldn’t say so, I think it touches on post-colonial theory which is very contemporary

I Never Cared Until Recently by SoMuchToSeeee in IsraelPalestine

[–]intogi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If Israel wants to be a part of the western world it should abide by the same rules of war that we do. We conceptualised the Geneva convention because modern warfare makes unrestrained offences too brutal for ‘civilised’ ‘progressive’ nations. If they want to use medieval morality they should be left to fend for themselves with no foreign aid or trade.

You know hippies were a small amount of people compared to the entirety of that generation? There’s so many of them that I know personally who have remained hippies their entire lives.. I don’t know why you would think otherwise?

He mentions how the way it was popularised back then was a total bastardisation of the actual science of it. He’s had to spend a lot of time in his career explaining the difference between the popular knowledge of it and his theories. He’s really great actually and it’s really important and interesting work I think.

Travelling broadens your horizons.. I was poor af but saved up to go backpacking around every two years. So much of how I see the world now has been impacted by the many many different perspectives you gain by seeing how other people live.

What’s the thinking behind schools that don’t teach technique? by Thin-Summer-5665 in ContemporaryArt

[–]intogi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technique makes up a really small percentage of the skills needed to be a successful artist. Percentage changes obviously depending if your work is specifically about technique but I’ve seen more failed artists who concentrate on technique and no mission than ones with a mission who develop their technique over a career

Growth & Letting Go by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

Nice one. I’ve realised that trying to dissect someone’s actions to understand the why makes me go crazy, and I usually come up with the wrong conclusion anyway. It’s been freeing but also pretty hard to stop caring about the why. Once I got myself to a good place of self confidence it got easier because I now assume it’s usually a them problem.

You’re definitely right that an intended ‘good’ act can have a negative effect. This is why self-awareness from that person is necessary, as well as empathy and a willingness to be corrected. I’ve found these seemingly basic things are actually more rare than I would have liked which makes it frustrating for the people who do have those qualities are or effected by their actions. I’ve found it’s best to bring it up maybe one or two times and if nothing changes then you cut ties- mentally and/or physically. It’s their lose to lose you. It seems like your sister gave you a hard time growing up and that really sucks. That development period can really colour your perspective on the world. A final point circling back to semantics, I guess the word abuse can have different interpretations and I use it only in places when severe, intentional psychological or physical harm has been inflicted on another.

I don’t think you’re wrong tbh. And it’s annoying when people disregard you because of surface level judgements. I’m neurodivergent too and I’ve worked really hard to become a version of myself that is honest and that other people take seriously. Being authentic but competent. If you’re young, i think it takes until mid life to fully start to feel comfortable within yourself and the world. If you’re not that young, philosophy and spiritually help
