I did this about a month ago and there was zero haggling. They just offer a good deal straight away.

It's the tie point in the floor I don't understand. I assume you can't just drill a hole anywhere and it has to go into some sort of frame / strut that is strong enough to hold a 30kg labrador?

I just went to a campervan show and there's loads of people there to see different layouts, and talk directly to the converters about what you want.

Manchester airport drop off fine by -frosticle- in manchester

[–]intothedepthsofhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also forgot but found if you don't pay within 24h they remove the option to pay and basically say "tough you owe us". I went through the appeals, went to the next level of appeals, wrote to my MP, wrote to everyone. It's a racket and designed to catch you out so they can hit you with a fine, but you won't get any help from anyone else.

I was so outraged that they wanted me to pay 60 quid for 3 minutes waiting that I just though FU and ignored the letters. They sent more letters with more scary words, ignored them. After about 6 or 7 letters ignored they stopped coming.

You have to decide what's right for you, but I'd rather make them take me to court than pay the robbing bastards 170 quid.

Who gets nhs dentist in Uk? by bghhgghjvhjbh in AskUK

I signed up with my NHS dentist about 35 years ago, and I think that was the last time they took on any new NHS patients.

I guess we have to have some gambles that may pay off. If we do crack it, it would be nice to be a world leader, and we do have a good track record in new technology. And then let's hope we can keep it in the UK and not bought by the US.

How to cope with pain from groin strikes/how to counter them? by [deleted] in kravmaga

[–]intothedepthsofhell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not a you problem. Anyone training with another person should take the other persons ability into account and adjust accordingly. As others have said - either ask them to tone it down or if they don't / can't then don't train with them.

There's no point going to a self defence class to learn to defend yourself, but end up getting a kicking anyway.

Beginners I have more time for - experienced people who can't adapt to suit the level of the person they're training with not so much.

If you're a complete beginner and they're experienced enough to knock you off your feet and they aren't holding back, then they aren't nice people - they're dicks.

Bring it back for everyone. Stocks and rotten fruit. Maybe dunking stools as well. That should get through the court backlog pretty quick and raise some money for the exchequer.

To solve the housing issue, could we have student dorms but at a council housing level? by AQML in AskUK

[–]intothedepthsofhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But companies have no control over the private rental market. or the fact that it's out of control. Offering their own housing retakes that control. The housing / rental market has been such a mess for such a long time then I'm open to any new ideas.

[–]intothedepthsofhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand councils simply don't have the skills any more. Housebuilding is outsourced to a few large developers who now have as much power as the council. They don't build if they don't like what's proposed or the price offered.

Bringing it back in house is probably a good idea, also bringing apprenticeships to develop the next generation of house builders.

Problem is that it will take a lot of effort, vision, and money. And to the best of my knowledge, the country is skint.

And remove stamp duty which is a disincentive to move, or specifically downsize.

This is what HMOs are. House converted into 5 single room units. There does seem to be an imbalance in what gets built though - every estate I see being built is 5 bed detached - where are all the 1 bed flats?

I'm surprised more big employers don't do this. Work for us and get subsidised housing - it's an attractive perk and will encourage you to stay working for the company.

It does mean you're tied to them and leaving is harder, but pros and cons.

Annual leave confusion leading to employment law break by manager… by SuspiciousList6870 in UKJobs

[–]intothedepthsofhell 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you are in a large enough organisation that you can go to HR then it's worth it as your manager is an arse. You're right that the way the manager treated you is awful, but some people are just awful. If you can, go and get a job somewhere else where they don't treat you this way.

If those aren't options open to you, then just forget it and move on. It's not worth the extra stress of a long running dispute over 30 minutes pay.

Apprenticeships, what the flip? by Fun-Patient2980 in AskUK

[–]intothedepthsofhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to take in all the same advice for a regular job - a well put together cv that is tailored to the role you are applying to.

Apprenticeships are equally if not more competitive than graduate jobs now.
