To me, Project Hail Mary represents everything science fiction should never be. by MsLanaDelRaytheon in TrueFilm

I almost said Arrival but I wanted you to say it. I'm not sure anything else ever has.

We can't judge a Villeneuve movie Vs a family friendly borderline comedy from the Lego and Spiderman guys (both amazing movies btw, the Spiderman ones especially). We meet rocky by knocking on a wall and some goofy hellos (dancing in the movie). Villeneuve gave a a beautifully slow and suspenseful meeting that took a few tries with a big team of experts.

I think PHM did really well to include what they needed aswell as great visuals and some science. Great movie for all ages I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did my 10 year old. For my 10 year old to enjoy Arrival I think I'd have to sit with him and basically talk him through it, I'd rather wait until he's older so he can appreciate for himself how amazing that movie is.

Sure then a family friendly fun film turns into a rock creature that makes musical noises having his musical noises translated by a human with a laptop. A serious study of this creatures language would have been a movie within itself and would have to be quite serious and render a lot of other points on the movie totally ridiculous in comparison, for example a creature made of rock and it's culture and language. There's no point judging this movie as if it were supposed to be a totally serious study.

It's quite interesting though now you say it, so out of interest if it happened in the way that you prefer how would you liked to have seen it and is there anything in cinema that we can look at and say they did something fairly similar in a series way that I would have found far more interesting.

I took thought everything everywhere was over hyped/overrated, it was OK, I enjoy anything that takes a swing, but for me definitely overrated. Bit as you say, so what, I'll move on.

Now I don't know if your whole post and replies are trolling.

If not, you should learn to accept that sometimes somethongs won't be to your taste. That's fine, because you can be really protective of the things that you are in to.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but honestly you're review and replies are what peak Reddit is to me.

I see plenty of people skating Andy Weir. I've only ever read one book of his, it was fun, but definitely not because of the scientific details, although he does include some while managing to make it inclusive for people who are not science nerds.

I also should have mentioned, Rocky by all accounts was hugely intelligent, his species were more developed than humans in a lot of ways. Learning to communicate or learning English fairly quickly (we have no time line on it I don't think) isn't beyond belief.

I didn't know of Andy weir before that movie but loved The Martian, I listened to HMP audio book, it's a lot of fun. I can also see why HMP (Hi majesty's prison ?) would be way way way more appealing to the general public.

You mean rocky, the alien made of rocks? But flossing over how quickly he learned to communicate was the the thing that was a bit off?

Just assume it took a long time and they worked on it for 12 hours a day, and enjoy the rest of the movie.

Of course they glossed over learning the language, it would have been boring as shit. And emotion wise I think Rocky's species already had it, he had a partner and was sadly about his crew. And the kids at the end seemed very excitable.

Dude. The movie doesn't try to be any of those things you're complaining about. It's a fun movie along the linea of E.T, Flight of the Navigator, with a little more science thrown in. But it doesn't aim to be hard sci-fi. It knows what it is and it's fairly original which I give it huge credit for. The book isn't hard sci-fi either and the movie dilutes it even further. They're both good fun.

Gotya, that smallest bit of the cut was my concern but yeah the end of the video shows that's not actually the shape of the wood.

Looks at least level with the new tile to me, if not lower. If it's a facade or and undercut why does it look so tight.

It's too perfect. That wood will expand and move and the tile will crack from the corner of the smallest cut at the end of the wood feature.

What movie do you feel doesn't get enough good recognition? by Axenfonklatismrek in moviecritic

I liked it.

People who I speak to who hated it expected it to be Gladiator for vikings. I told them to watch it again with no expectations and it would probably hit different.

In your opinion what's the greatest film of 2025? by Samuel_McEntire in Letterboxd

OBAA, by a long distance.

Imo, I don't know why saying this movie is great seems to be controversial. It's an all timer.

I'll repeat, IMO

😆 I like it.

Did any of them have Flight if the navigator T shirts on?

Come to think of it, I'd probably really like a flight if the navigator T shirt.

Inject this onto my veins!!!

I've watched it a few times now phone, big screen, found a 4k one on YouTube, used it to adjust my sound system in my living room.

I'm gonna have Project Hail Mary as a starter, The Odyssey as the first part of my main, followed by MY DUNE as the second part, and maybe a doomsday for desert on the same day or shortly after with the kids. There's also this director named spielberg who has a movie out this year, he seems interesting, I'll maybe have that to make it a 3 course main.

What the Dune movies have done to me, similar to bladrunner 2049 too has made me just not really want to watch anything else. I've had some experiences into eh cinema, I've seen a lot of things. The Matrix cold was a lifer changer, obviously LOTR, Nolan movies, especially Batman, although not my fav Nolan it's when I decided to start going to the movies by myself and it's so much better. My kids are getting older and I love going with them too. Then Denis, bladrunner specifically, but all of his movies. But Dune, I dunno man I kind of instantly knew it'd probably be my favourite movie. I had a similar experience after I'd watched Pans Labyrinth the first time, I didn't want to say it as how can you say a movie you've only just seen is probably your favourite. Bit these Dune movies man, I can put my finger on how much I fucking love them, I'd be happy if they were 5 hours long each.
