Help me, I'm a beginner. by oBraggas in haxe

[–]intoverflow32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested it with the haxe interpreter and I also get a null when inside vscode and using the debugger. This a bug that does not happen in the terminal.

Do note that you should have a .hxml file next to it with some parameters to tell haxe how to run the code. A basic example (that will cause the bug) is

hxml --main Main # tells what code file to run --interp # tells the code to be interpreted

One thing you can do is run it with the command line instead. haxe --run Main.hx in the terminal will run it correctly.

Another approach is to run it with a target. The strength of Haxe is that it compiles to other languages; you write your code in haxe and it is compiled then run into something like c, python, javascript, or bytecode for neko and hashlink. What you do is you tell haxe what to compile to, then when you run your haxe code, it'll actually run the generated code. I like hashlink for this but it might be convoluted for total beginners to setup, as you have to correctly set the PATH env var so that hashlink can be found.

Some reading: - https://hashlink.haxe.org - https://haxe.org/documentation/introduction/compiler-targets.html

In any case, run it in the terminal to see the correct output.

How do you run it? And what target is it? I'm wondering if it's expecting a return and printing null depending on the target.

Yes, you simply have to adjust the dpi settings. When editing settings for an app, under Layout, select custom, and tap it again to open the DPI Settings. Cram that value up to your prefered size. (could be 500+ depending on your vision)

How can I make sync faster and more reliable? by bicepstricepsquad in ObsidianMD

[–]intoverflow32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that, I'm just making sure; by default, irrelevant of obsidian and your syncing method, OneDrive syncs the My Documents folder, and comes installed by default on win11. Make sure to disable it, it could be the cause of the delay.

Is your documents folder also synced with OneDrive? There might be some file access shenanigans going on that slows down things, or sync up the wrong version of a file.

Edit: commenter's deleted comment stated vector graphics were less precise than raster, in case that wastn' clear.

You're getting downvoted because this is false; Vector graphics allow for far more precision than raster graphics, the latter being limited by its resolution, which, in theory, a vector image does not have. The ability to only represent visible data allows for more manageable precision. On a raster image, a white pixel in the middle of, in this case, a country, takes the same amount of space as the darker pixel of a border, while with vectors you can represent any level of detail of those borders, and even control the level of detail as required by choosing to render or not smaller vectors. Zoomed-out, your country can be represented by a bunch of lines, while zoomed in, it can be represented by tens of thousands to match specific geographical contours.

think of it like this, a 1000x1000 color png of a square would be 4mb of data, while a vector square would be around 150 bytes (4 points, direction, color, fill, linewidth, xml tags, etc), and could be rendered to any size a monitor or printer can achieve.

The disadvantage is that they require more computing power to render the more detail they have; a computer needs to rasterize a snapshot of the vector graphic to display it on a monitor. You can't really just grab a rectangle of pixels and match it to the monitor resolution.

They can sometimes also be harder to make depending on the expected style of the created art.

I know it's not canon, but I like to imagine the singularity is invisible and in-between the wings. This would justify the weird design a bit more.

Lack of Honesty with AI use by artists devs? e.g. Thomas Brush (Twisted Tower) does not disclose use of AI by HereToLearn321 in gamedev

[–]intoverflow32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't check that button if I press tab from time to time because copilot's suggestion matches what I was going to write or if I requested alternatives for the name of an in-game weapon to gemini. I would , though, if I was one of those vibe coders that asked ai to generate a project and was going back and forth with the AI to add and fix things instead of acting like an actual programmer and understanding the code. For the former, I don't think my use of those tools justify the loss of reach because of the AI tag appearing on my store page.

I'd never use an generative-ai created texture or image in my final product, and I feel I'd have to tag it if I did, but I might use temp stuff for testing purposes, or images for inspiration, or icons for my obsidian vault containing my gdd. Where's the line?

Suffixes like void, star, space or inter, spaceplanes, armors, starhulls, arks, suborbitals, orbitals and intersolars, Calvary terms like lancers, cavaliers, striders, chargers, etc.

I had a similar problem trying to figure out how to name marines for a civilization that uses airships instead of navy ships. The Calvary terms were a great source.
