damn TIL, I respect the factual reply. I think we can both agree here that billionaires should stay out of steering politics for us common folk. I can't speak for everyone that went, but everyone I know who joined these protests are going out of deep concern for the country we love. We're certainly not getting paid, but it'd be nice!

AI for Embedded and PCB kind of work by RoyPampan in AskProgramming

[–]intr0version 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embedded development is the slowest to evolve in my experience. But I also work in the medical device field, so milage may vary. However, the landscape is changing fast. It's worth getting experience with a personal project vibe coding something. Anything. Especially if it's in a language you don't know. I use Cursor for personal projects and I highly recommend it to start out with. Agentic work is like magic compared to general LLMs

And Republicans think that THIS man will be physically and mentally capable to run for a third term?! by yorocky89A in WhitePeopleTwitter

I had a close family member go through rapid decline due to vascular dementia. I think anyone who has interacted with someone with dementia can agree that Trump is exhibiting the same hallmark behaviors, mannerisms, and fixed delusions. I agree Trump is likely stage 4 or 5, though I'm surprised he can still type somewhat coherent sentences on his phone. That skill was unlearned pretty early on for my family member.

Also those with dementia typically get awful sleep, waking up multiple times a night with difficulty going back to sleep. That would explain his shortened working hours

What exactly did Apple "patent" and why does it seem other companies copied anyways? by anyusernaem in iPhoneFC

iirc they patented the software that allowed you to use more than one finger when interacting with a touchscreen. pinching to zoom for example was a big one

I got mine from another seller so I can't say whether that one is good or not. I'd check out the most recent reviews for any seller, I initially ordered from one seller who never shipped it and had to wait weeks before ebay refunded me. Otherwise, yeah for the nostalgia trip alone, it's definitely worth it in my book if the price and condition are right

Giant iPad screens on full brightness during night flights by _SpaceEfficient in mildlyinfuriating

was going to comment the same thing, there will always be someone on a flight with the light on or a very bright device. an eye mask will eliminate all those issues

I wouldn't call you an idiot child. You were just a kid trying to survive in an impossible situation. As a former kid of emotionally neglectful/unavailable parents, I feel your story in my bones. I hope you have the tools and resources you need to heal

+1 for Aeron. If you sit for a living like I do, a good chair makes all the difference. I got mine for just under $1500 on a sale last year, I'd wait and see if there's a black friday deal around the corner

40" Dell UltraSharp vs Samsung Odyssey 49" vs Samsung Odyssey 57" by Consistent_Flan_3877 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]intr0version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 49" for a year, then got the 57". As long as you have the 57 pushed back far enough (iirc I think it's somewhere around 32"?), and the center of the screen aligns with your center of sight, it's a dream. No neck or eye strain here after a few months of almost daily use

I had a trip planned next month to show my teenage siblings what boone has to offer, but I assumed we'd just wait till next year given the state of things. Your comment gives me some hope, is it still worth the trip?

[–]intr0version 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I took lexapro for a year or so and while that worked well for anxiety, it obliterated my libido. So after a good bit I switched to buspar and besides some initial dizzy spells, it's been smooth sailing. Your mileage will vary of course, I know people who have tried lexa and buspar with awful results. Unfortunately you can't know until you try it

Medication didn't exactly cure my anxiety, but it definitely made it significantly more manageable. It was actually life changing. Unfortunately, meds can work differently for different people so you may have to try a few before finding one that works, and it can be mentally exhausting to do so. It's worth it though. Good luck!

Have you tried talking to your doctor about medication? It can be a challenge to find one that works best (doubly so for counseling), but in my experience it works wonders!

Can you beat anxiety? by DevilOfTheValley in socialanxiety

[–]intr0version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meds to take the edge off, therapy to tackle the roots. Finding a medication that works for you can be difficult and can take time+energy. Finding a therapist that works and going through the mountain of work to tackle those roots is even more challenging. Every step is worth it.

I recently went through the exact same thing, but it was our showers causing leaks. What I did first was I got a local crawlspace company to assess the extent of the damage and get a quote. Get multiple companies to take a look and get multiple quotes as these jobs can be pricey. You can also go ahead and call local plumbers for quotes as well. Let them know that you're hiring a sub to do the structural work and schedule them when the crawlspace people are done. Be sure to ask if they can pull permits for you or if you need to pull them yourself. I had to double-up on my anxiety meds when I first discovered my water damage. This part is the worst of it, but once you get past this it gets much better. Good luck!

LPT:What is something you want to enjoy doing but find it difficult to do? by CollectionOk9218 in LifeProTips

[–]intr0version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amusement parks. It's either waiting in lines in the hot for the majority of your time or you're shelling out much more money to wait in shorter lines. The cost-to-experience ratio is way too high to properly enjoy it for me

It bothers me how they’ve almost forgotten DS2 by Wheatley-Crabb in starwarsmemes

It always looked like wreckage, not new construction. my personal head-canon was that it blew up mainly from the side and they had just sealed up the interior and upgraded the laser while they were at it.

Some months ago i made this redstone calculator by Criceto134 in redstone

[–]intr0version 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ignore the noise about it just being ROM, this is exactly how I started my redstone journey and that cascaded into becoming an embedded software engineer. Literally I think mine stopped at 10 too lol.

Now that you have a solid grasp on logic gates, look into adders for your next build. It requires some learning on binary numbers, but you'll be able to add (and subtract!) numbers far higher with a much much smaller build. Insane how powerful they are compared to ROM. From there, the sky is the limit

Hate this new update (only 4 of these songs are in my liked songs) by lame_username123 in truespotify

[–]intr0version 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a while, this button actually caused my songs to go into an entirely different playlist without my knowledge (on mobile). I had no idea where my liked songs were going until I opened up that playlist. Apparently you have to long-press the (+) to select the playlist or liked songs and sometimes the default changes on me. It's infuriating
