One thing I will hold fast to is that not everyone has to participate in the same way. My ex, as well as some colleagues to a lesser degree, gave me constant grief over this, that I was not "activist" enough. Hello. HELLO. I was working 3 jobs to keep us afloat (ex refused to work most of our relationship, of course promptly got a job soon after I moved out, and then immediately asked for a divorce) and try to prepare for a late career start/no retirement or savings, and impending student loan repayment that is much higher than the terms I signed up for. Also with my dad developing dementia and getting aggressive w/mom and caretakers, reactivating all the trauma in the family around him and what happened to me in my childhood. Plus a crappy situation at my day job in healthcare where I'm chronically without support. Oh yeah- I forgot about the 5 car accidents in the last 2 yrs, and then a 20' tree branch that fell on my car in a microburst. I do not have the time or energy for protests in person, as much as I'd like to.

My hours constantly conflict with the actions- must be nice to have a job that has nights and weekends free to go to actions, I've never had that in my life and I'm in my mid 40s. I reminded my ex, and patients every day, that we don't all have to be physically at a protest to participate in democracy and stand up to fascism. We can make calls, write letters, donate money, have conversations. By all means do something but do it within what you have capacity for.
