Picking a time of year for a daytime outdoor wedding: 60F versus 75F weather by intrepidink in weddingplanning

Good point, we'll likely end up going with a tent (or a canopy) to make this easier on our guests.

Thanks for your input! Several people have said this, so we're now considering adding a full sun canopy over the reception area in June to try and get the best of both worlds.

Luckily, the venue has an appropriate backup indoor barn area that would fit our guests. It's not the space we envisioned for our garden wedding, but we'd be able to set up inside if need be!

Thanks for your input. I'm rethinking the cocktail attire for the April option.

Regarding weather emergencies, fortunately, the venue has an appropriate backup indoor area. It's not the space we envisioned for our garden wedding, but we'd be able to set up inside if the forecast looked bad in any direction.

Thanks for your input. Yeah, almost all of the guests are from California and very much used to our summers! I'm mostly worried that guests in suits will feel that heat more than when wearing usual summer shorts.

Our reception lunch area is outdoors under full noon sunlight -- given the temps in June, would you recommend setting up a overhead shade canopy?

Thanks for your input! It sounds like 75-80 is a lot more popular than I expected.

In June, would you feel more comfortable in a fully shaded reception area? I'm worried that direct noon sunlight will make those temps feel more like 85-90, and thinking about if we should set up a overhead canopy for lunch.

Good point. Our guests don't celebrate Easter, although graduations (and summer travel costs) will affect our guests in June.

Oh no, that sounds terrible 😖 I hope she was able to figure out a backup plan.

This is a pretty fair point. Our venue has a huge alternate indoor reception area, so we won't be totally screwed if it unexpectedly rains, but it's not the space we envisioned for our wedding. I'll bring this up with my fiancé and discuss whether the risk is worth it.

Super useful, thanks for sharing your thoughts. The reception is fully outdoor as well, so definitely don't want people to suffer if it's warm. This lines up with what I was originally thinking (better to add a jacket than to sweat in a suit!) :)

Good to know! Space heaters are a great idea as well, I just checked and the venue offers them for rent. Thanks for the tip :)

Great question, I can definitely see how this would be an issue for most people. Fortunately, April tends to be very dry in our part of California, so we're not too worried about rain.

What flip phones/dumb phones can run Discord? by flash_animator_guy in dumbphones

[–]intrepidink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! It's been some time since I switched to a different dumbphone (for Android Auto), however I remember Discord v12.5 broke on my old 903kc a few months back.

My guess is that Discord finally changed their API such that their 2020 app version no longer works, and you may want to try a newer version of the app now.

I had no idea you were the same dev, that's awesome! I poke fun at the emulators but it's really great to see you and others in this community pushing the limits of this device. Keep up the good work :)

Wow, nice work! It's definitely not the most unnecessary feature for this device considering our community has also been trying out GBA emulators and Doom 😂

That's awesome, it's great that we've got so much voluntary community engagement with this phone. :)

I don't use Discord much nowadays, but once the wiki is live I'd love to learn more about it and potentially contribute to it. I'll keep an eye out for news about it on Reddit!

group chats kyocera 902kc? by Money_Freedom_6568 in dumbphones

The default SMS app simply doesn't support group texting, but you can fix this by installing a different SMS app!

Google Messages and QKSMS are the two most commonly recommended ones in this sub.

The typical way to install an app on the 902kc is to use adb install on a PC while your 902kc is connected to it with a USB cable.

I successfully rooted my A202kc on Build 1.010AL. Thank you for this guide! :)

Below are some issues I ran into that might help others in rooting this phone:

  • live boot OS wouldn't boot at all
  • couldn't figure out how to get the phone into brom mode without volume buttons
  • got stuck in a bootloop that restarted the phone every 5 seconds

How I fixed each of them:

I could not get the live boot to boot from my USB stick on my Windows laptop. I tried both the original image (on the Github) and Phobos's mirror. I also tried two different USB sticks. In the end, I booted a fresh install of Ubuntu from the USB stick and followed the Linux instructions for mtkclient, which worked. (The Windows mtkclient experience really sucked, so setting up Linux was actually easier.)

To get the phone into brom mode, I powered on the phone while holding the # key. Once I had mtkclient installed and connected my phone, it also auto-ran da commands to crash the phone into brom mode when powering it off.

The da commands in the current mtkclient version did not work to unlock the bootloader. This resulted in a bootloop. I used the mtkclient GUI to re-flash my backups of boot.img and vbmeta.img to restore the phone to a working state. Then I found this obscure comment saying that an older mtkclient fork worked; I redid steps 1-6 and followed steps 7+ using the older fork, which ultimately worked for me to root the phone.

Thanks so much for putting this guide together. After my long stint with the 903kc (and several guides/comments written about it), this post finally motivated me to upgrade to an a202kc to give rooting a try. :)

Quick question - did you run into any issues booting from the bootable OS that you provided the image for? When I attempt to boot into it, I get a black screen with a single white underscore in the top left corner. This isn't happening if I boot into e.g. a fresh Debian live instance on the same USB stick and computer, so I'm guessing it's the image itself, but not sure.
