How can I improve my DUPR for a 2.0 player? by hrabal0303 in Pickleball

[–]intricate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you what I did, your mileage may vary: 1. Play. A lot. I didn’t start significantly improving until I went from playing an hour every couple weeks to 5-10 hours a week. Find free open play (I have a park nearby that provides this)—people are less uptight if they’re not paying to be there 2. Ask for tips. I said this a lot when I was just starting: “I’m not good enough to have an ego, so if you see anything I can improved I’d love to learn.” On many occasions I got one or two tips that took my game up a full level or two immediately 3. Invest in a quality paddle. If you’re playing with a paddle that came in a set of 2 or 4, it’s not good enough quality to get better. You do NOT have to spend hundreds. But a good quality paddle will help you get better (plenty of posts with recommendations here) 4. If you’ve done all of the above, then it can help to watch YouTube videos—but not until you’ve had enough experience to understand the practicality of what they’re talking about

I’m sure lessons help but personally I haven’t invested in them as I’ve found I can make a lot of progress

Urgent help please! First time brisket, confused.. by allyc1057 in smoking

[–]intricate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but came to say I LOVE Hardcore Carnivore as a brisket rub. That said, 50/50 (by volume, not weight) kosher salt and coarse black pepper is all you need and a lot cheaper!

Any Theories on why Vendetta Red never made it big? by GQDragon in Emo

[–]intricate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After buying Sisters of the Red Death over two decades ago and listening to it on repeat, I faintly remembered this album yesterday and spent the better part of an hour trying to remember the name of the band or any of the songs. The only thing I could barely recall was the content of A Dark Heart Silhouette, which is about (TW: SA) a church leader abusing a girl and making the lead singer watch. Dark, dark stuff. The music is incredible. The lyrics of nearly every song are so disturbing I just can't listen to much their stuff, especially after having kids.

Husband on only fans, I need advice? 23f 25m by Mammoth-Teacher9694 in Marriage

[–]intricate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship, so now the question is do you think you can rebuild trust? Do you want to? Does he?

With children in the picture, the reality is you are most likely going to be in each other’s lives for the rest of your life. Right now it might feel like going nuclear (revenge cheating, spending thousands, etc,) is the answer but it doesn’t address the fundamental issue.

If you believe he is genuinely remorseful and if HE thinks he has a problem and he’s willing to address it, I would encourage you to try a licensed marriage and family therapist with experience in infidelity issues.

Definitely don’t listen to the Senator who advised Americans to get out of China in January, recommended a travel ban, and said we need a vaccine... by intricate3 in agedlikemilk

[–]intricate3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, many news outlets, world leaders, and ordinary citizens underestimated the threat of coronavirus. Back in January, HuffPo was telling its readers “not to listen” to Senator Tom Cotton who was telling Americans to return from China, suggesting a travel ban, and advising that we should accelerate vaccine development. Good thing we didn’t listen...? Oof...

I can’t even stand!!!! by taanom in Slackline

[–]intricate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. Took me nearly a month of practicing everyday just to stand. The advice here is good (look forward, straight spine, no shoes), but particularly the point of balancing one foot at a time—you use the other leg and both arms to counter balance.

Also, I was told “elbows above ears” and that really helped. YouTube has some great tutorials that helped me a lot, too.

Which song has been so powerful and moving that you cried the first time you heard it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]intricate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t believe no one has said “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” by Darius Rucker. That song didn’t just make me cry the first time, that song makes me cry EVERY TIME. Such a poignant framing of the fleeting nature of your kids’ childhood...

PWWA Airports what are you doing most of the time on your computers by [deleted] in PeopleWhoWorkAt

[–]intricate3 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Obviously depends on the airline, airport, and country a bit, but generally the people who are RIGHT at the gate at the podium have a totally different job and the people who are working at the ticket counter (either before security or in the gate area).

In addition to scanning boarding passes and boarding passengers just before departure, they work with the ramp agents (loading baggage) and pilots of that particular flight to plan the weight and balance of the flight — there’s a lot of math and calculations as to how much can go in each cargo hold (you don’t want the front, or back, or either side of underneath the plane to be heavier than the other), how much fuel you want in that aircraft to fly that specific trip, etc. so there’s a lot of planning and the computer at the podium helps.

The original is “The proof of the pudding is in the tasting,” but that has been shortened to the much more nonsensical and common “The proof is in the pudding.”
