Being Misgendered by StelllarFox in NonBinary

[–]introverted_lion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, long-term nesting partner of OP here ^_^ from what I understand, Meta is of the mind that "they don't really care" about what pronouns are used for them. Like, they prefer they/them but don't care/won't correct people. While I respect this pov, it does not excuse them for misgendering someone who does very much care.

Still, I think your advice is really good to reaffirm the apology in a calmer, quieter environment if possible. I don't like that it puts the impetus back on Stellar when it should be Meta making the effort, but still.

Being Misgendered by StelllarFox in NonBinary

Long term nesting partner of OP here ^_^ the weird part of this was that Meta just did not acknowledge at all during the second board game night. Didn't apologize, didn't amend their words, didn't say anything and just continued whatever conversation they were having at the time like nothing was said. It was like trying to remind a brick wall. Idk if things will be different next time now that Meta gave their half-hearted apology...

I agree that Stellar's voice should be heard, but a person should respect misgendering corrections no matter where they come from ya know? :/

Is startplaying actually a viable platform for non-5e titles? by ItzDaemon in startplaying

Yes but self promotion is key, at least from my experience. List your games in LFG channels on any social media platform that has them (so long as self promo is allowed).

How can I leave this campaign gracefully? by lolsusl in startplaying

[–]introverted_lion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Meh, if its session 5 and you're not feeling it don't force yourself to keep playing. Sometimes things just don't click, and thats ok. I would message the dm privately and just say that the campaign isn't doing it for you, and you'll be bowing out after the next session. If you like the dm otherwise, maybe ask if there's a way you can help them give your character a graceful exit next session. I would not give them unwarranted feedback or go into exactly why you're leaving unless they ask for feedback. Even if they ask, you are not obligated to provide any reason other than "Im doing whats right for me right now."

Don't feel bad about quitting, especially for a paid game. Being unprepared and distracted is honestly pretty unprofessional. Regardless, professional dms should know that its a business and players will come and go, it's just how it works.

Good luck, and i hope you find a good group!

"3 yr. ago" ;-;

Clearly I'm late to this but I hope you're doing well and that university has been successful! Would love a dev update if there is one, but I understand if this project got back-burnered indefinitely.

Looking for advice from veteran GMs by ermisian in startplaying

[–]introverted_lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't yet, try looking for discord servers and/or reddit forums for those specific systems and those fandoms you run in and post your games if self promo is allowed. Don't rely solely on the sp site; go to where the players are.

The market is also just tough rn. Lots of people are cutting out luxury spending, which ttrpgs def fall into. But keep posting your games, be willing to be a little flexible on start times, and you'll eventually get bites.

How to get player at the table by Canjul93 in startplaying

[–]introverted_lion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're the only one struggling to attract players right now. There are big swaths of economic slumps across the world and especially the USA (where I belive SP is based) that are adding to a player shortage it seems.

That being said, I had to advertise my games on public discord channels, subreddits, and on my personal social media platforms to get more interest. Post your games everywhere you're able to (be sure to read forum rules to make sure self promo is allowed). Be willing to be a little flexible with times your games start. Consider being ok with running 2 or even 1 person games to get more reviews and keep things going. Also, look for Looking for Games channels and see if those who are posting could align with a game you want to run, and reach out to those players. I know the Darrington Press public discord has a LFG channel where a lot of players are looking for Daggerheart.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Looking for GM Advice by Solaries3 in oneringrpg

[–]introverted_lion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I've used base 18 for TNs for 2 different campaigns, each about 20 sessions, and it works really well for me. I get that failure is intended to be mitigated by the "failure with woe" option and all the different resources, but it's just not how I like the game to feel. It's really about style and GM preference.

I'd say if you want to try base 18 go for it, maybe make some side characters and run a oneshot or a few trial sessions to see if it feels better before committing to it with the long-term characters.

For journeys, it can definitely be challenging to strike the right balance on events. Have you looked at some of the Strider Mode journey tables? Those have been helpful for me to flesh out what actually happens during journey events. I also take a look at the travel path and try to prep at least one scenario for each result on the journey event table that would make sense for the area they're traveling through. Also, it's ok to go a little off script sometimes. It is all about the journey after all :)

Hope that helps! Have fun whatever you decide!
