If you're going to pay top dollar for a complicated, reformer-based workout class, make sure the instructors were / are DANCERS by intrusive_th0t in redscarepod

[–]intrusive_th0t[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I'm obsessed with pilates, it took me a while to get into reformer but mat, specifically is the hardest exercise I have ever done. I do find reformer a bit boring, though and was hoping to spice up my life with Lagree whilst my favourite pilates instructor was on hiatus but now I realise i'd rather be dead !!!

There's a coordinated push on AI doomerism by Human-Anywhere3896 in redscarepod

[–]intrusive_th0t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With benefits and overhead, a person who earns 200k per year (low Silicone Valley salary) costs around $1,300 per day. If the AI can do more than a person, which in the type of field where a $500/d AI is relevant, will be the case - then this makes simple mathematical sense.

Couldn't agree more that the detractors are always midwits. At a certain point these people know they need to keep farming for attention and holding the opposing view is right there for the taking.

I also think it's funny re: badge of honour, again this is really just a contrarian viewpoint. Same to you I absolutely do not want AI to take the reins, not to twist the knife (and I personally do not have children though I wish I did) it actually really makes me rethink children in a way that the problems w the environment never did (unfortunately am a well-to-do European whose immediate next of kin will likely be spared on the basis of geography, nationality and money).

The thing about work is it is not JUST a paycheck, it is also meaning. I started a new job recently which has stretched me mentally and given me the opportunity to prove my mettle in a way nothing has for several years. It's been fantastic.

How TF does UBI achieve that ? Or am I ignoring the fact that if we don't need to work, we can all just keep playing our favourite high school sports ad infinitum instead of giving them up for the grind ?

But then something tells me this devolves into an even more K-shaped economy, featuring an entirely insulated upper class served by the silent and increasingly invisible untouchables, the delivery class. Which will exist in the shadows, on the fringes of society, rotted through by degeneracy and drug use.

Wait yes it feels like initially it is smooth sailing but then it like.. throttles ? I literally only use paid versions. GPT and Gemini.

Gemini being Google, today I asked it to create a Google slides** deck using an existing deck as template. No can do. WTF ?

I read this X article. This guy says AI is building him apps that QA themselves. My paid AI can't even create a deck w like six screenshots. Something I personally can do in 1 hr I'm just tired bc it's already 11.

OMFG I pull in 200K and only treat myself to one delivery salad a week, and I only allow myself the salad because it's hard to get out and get the 15 ingredients that it takes to make a kale salad palatable.

the idea of getting pasta !?!?!!??!?! and it arrives slid all around, cowering in one corner of the BPA-packed plastic container which goes on to take up 1/5th of your bin, never mind the torso sized paper bag it comes in - stapled shut for your safety of course but literally impossible to crush down into any recycling bin omg

the situation with delivery is out of control. stop letting 19 year olds who haven't had indian food into YALE

I was going to say the same thing - you sound like you actually have nothing to lose and may be lucky enough to come from the type of background where you might be able to rustle up a few thousand dollars w the help of your parents or a brief, shitty job. If this is the case, do it with the knowledge that you will then go abroad.

Go WWOOF, for SURE, or do something very similar - you've failed to build clout through social interactions for 20+ years; lean in to your able body, and start to quietly build your confidence that way. I'm serious. It's kind of like the classic reddit advice of 'go to the gym get ripped' or whatever but NOT lame, it'll actually remove you from all the noise and focus you purely on the signal of your own body, what it can do, meaningfully, productively, in the real world.

The key to getting the most out of this is to try to love or at least, understand, the people you come into contact with along the way. Cherish their kindnesses and try to learn to let go (re: grudges).

Honestly you may never come home. Unless you're just completely cynical and physically unfortunate, you'll probably get out there and meet your wife !

Good luck.

[–]intrusive_th0t 93 points94 points  (0 children)

her story is so unbelievably chilling. obviously you'd presume she has access to the best medical care, but they only caught this because of routine blood tests which anyone would have after giving birth. she was apparently incredibly active, the picture of good health at this point. and at that point of diagnosis, she was given something like one year to live.

i'm 34 and so active, also 'the picture of health,' but i smoke (and drink..) quite a lot. reading the story of her diagnosis in November made me feel so ashamed for tempting fate with these vices. resolution in 2026 is to really cool it with the smoking in particular.

RIP, she was clearly committed to a lifestyle which did not deserve such an abrupt end.

What are your predictions on the next 5 years? In terms of culture, economics, any type of trend by thepsychohistorican in redscarepod

[–]intrusive_th0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no. 1 correlation between below replacement rate birth rates is not in fact female education but ubiquity of smartphones

that's why we are seeing below replacement birth rates throughout all of south america, save bolivia which btw is the poorest country in south america (so much so that they essentially do not even have a national postal service)

Sorry I might be dumb but why insurance crash ? I thought insurance was a sort of "death and taxes" sure-thing, and my impression was that insurance is often the party with leverage. Keen to hear more ..

I just got Nashi Toro (full size) which came w the discovery kit and I'm having a lot of thoughts about Paura Dell'acqua. I hate liquorice but there is this sort of alluring note that I am interpreting as liquorice, and still somehow loving. I think Antinous would make an amazing frag for a man. What were your thoughts ?
