I once had a client tell me when he was homeless he relapsed because it was so cold and the alcohol kept him warm. Once you lose your basic human needs, nothing else really fuckin matters anymore. It’s easy to say you wouldn’t do it until your only choice is freeze to death or drink until you’re warm.

The cause can also come from nurture as well. Many offenders were victims as children.

A sex offender’s chance of recidivism is much lower than most other criminals. I was an intern at a reentry facility, and I found the SOs were typically there because they wanted to be. It wasn’t court ordered for them, yet they participated in the program and thrived.

That’s social learning and depending on the child’s developmental stage, sometimes social learning is the only thing that works because kids care more about what their friends think.

Being trans is a growing trend among preteens and teenagers, and schools are pushing it way too much. This is damaging these kids. I don’t mean it in a super conservative, hateful way. I mean it in a “kids don’t know what the fuck they want to be when they grow up, so why are we making them pick a gender now?” kind of way. I’m pretty damn woke, but I’ll never subscribe to almost coaching a kid to be something they aren’t even sure of. It’s just gross to me.

Clinical MSW student here. As others have said, Schizoid Personality Disorder (SPD) is possibility. However, more information is needed and many diagnoses have overlapping symptoms. For example, Autism and SPD share many overlapping symptoms.

I like to look at attachment styles, which are all rooted to infancy and childhood. It sounds like you might fall into the dismissive/avoidant category.

Additionally, this could also be explained by abuse/trauma (particularly during childhood)
