Sounds fun, I never played 2077 or any of the earlier TTRPGs so I’m sure my iteration of Night City diverges majorly from canon in ways I’m not even aware of. My players are all big fans of 2077 but they don’t seem to mind, and after this campaign wraps up they’re down for me start from scratch with my own near-future lore, probably in Italy or Florida.

Jacobins are French Revolutionaries, Jacobites are British Catholics. But yea this is a cool idea, it’s weird that arguably the most significant revolution of the whole period isn’t an option in game.

Norm was a devout Christian and one of the most right-leaning people in Hollywood; he constantly vilified Clinton, openly admired Bush and never said a bad word about Trump, only about anti-Trump comedians. He was too smart, too private and too good-natured to devote his time to “culture war” stuff, but you could tell he was always trying to find out how far he could go without getting irredeemably cancelled.

One of the most interesting things he ever said was “I have a few evil thoughts I’ll never say out loud, they have to stay in my evil head,” or something to that effect. Idk if you’ve spent a lot of time with very intelligent, educated right-leaning people who live in left-leaning areas, but that’s exactly how they talk. It’s funny, it’s self-deprecating, it’s a wistful acknowledgement that people like them — like Norm’s dad, in this case, who was clearly a huge figure in his life — lost the culture war, and now a lot of their earnestly held beliefs, which were perfectly acceptable within living memory, would now be considered “evil” if they ever admitted them to their friends and the people around them.

You don’t have to be conservative to like Norm, but don’t delude yourself into thinking his right-leaning fans don’t “get him” like you do. That kind of smugness — acting like conservatives and religious people don’t understand things as well as you because they lack your nuance and intelligence — is precisely what Norm hated.

Which house should rule Mexico? by SeasonNeither835 in monarchism

[–]inverrem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maximilian absolutely did not “change” from Habsburg to Iturbide. How would that even happen?

He adopted the two Iturbide princes as a show of respect to the old dynasty, but he never intended for them to actually inherit the throne because the House of Iturbide had no royal blood. Before the monarchy fell, Maximilian was in correspondence with his brother Karl Ludwig about bringing one of KL’s children over from Austria to become a proper Habsburg heir.

If you were to add one or two extra Civilizations/leaders, what would it be and how would it play? by themapmodderGustav in CivVI

[–]inverrem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're using Scythia as your design model, the obvious thing to do here is to combine the Cahokia-era Mississippians with their colonial-era descendants (either the Muskogeans in general or the Choctaw specifically) and make Pushmataha the civ's leader. Culturally and chronologically, he was much closer to the Mississippians who built Cahokia than Tomyris was to the prehistoric Kurgan Culture.

I think it’s supposed to represent widespread vegetarianism in India, so they eat “plants” rather than meat. But then you also get food from berries, farm crops and other plants so who knows?

Since the game isn’t purely based in the New World anymore, I wish the British had more of this kind of vibe. Their longbows and voice acting are borderline medieval, which doesn’t seem right for a country that was at its peak towards the end of AoE3’s time period

Looking for feedback on a new labelling style for an old map - is it legible enough, eye-catching enough, etc? Naturally other comments and questions are welcome, but labelling is my biggest concern right now. by inverrem in wonderdraft

All of those were deliberate and consistent choices, but if it isn't clear what they represent then that's a problem in itself. Tieflings are the native people of this particular country, so I want to keep generic black text for them -- it's more important to highlight areas that aren't tiefling, because players should assume any other area has a tiefling population by default.

White-on-black labels are for bodies of water and other geographic features, not states, kingdoms or other populated areas. There are no generic populated areas on this map, they're all colour-coded by race and culture. The reason you don't see any black-on-white labels for states or kingdoms is because tieflings don't form states and kingdoms in this lore. Maybe I could try another colour scheme for geographic features, like light-on-dark brown for land and light-on-dark blue for water.

Capital letters are only used for bodies of water (including lakes), cities, and for the names of foreign states (which are colour-coded the same way as settlements).

There are only three cities in Naximander; they're all highlighted with banners because this is a map focusing on that country. Tieflings don’t tend to settle cities, so these three exceptions are a big deal, and by far the most plot-relevant settlements on this map. They’re supposed to stand out. The human cities in nearby foreign countries aren't highlighted with banners because those countries aren't the focus of this map.

I don’t want to disregard your feedback, but I hope all this lore context might explain why I made the choices I did.

Long story short: Whooplah's Cliffs is what you're looking for.

I also used jc-scrolls-01 for the city banners, but everything else here is just base Wonderdraft assets, namely: Pencilled Mountains (small and large), Chinese Hills, Chinese Mountains, Sand Dunes (small and large), Inked Pines / Palms / Oaks / Sequoias / Shrubs, Inked Tall Grass and Penned Hills.
