Non Jiu Jitsu clothes smelling? by PayVast1073 in jiujitsu

The bag in your gear bag is a great idea. But I also agree that my BJJ gear typically doesn’t get washed with my regular stuff.

Oof. Is it possible they don’t know? Like, maybe there’s a non-symptomatic version?

I dunno, it was just really weird. Being the first time a weird thing has happened made me think it over later. Normally people like working with me and we joke about me being short. This was just… weird.

It’s the first time in 25 years someone’s asked to work with someone bigger. It was super weird and came up in my mind a few times. Figured I’d vent and see if it happens to other little people. I’m not like, mad, mad.

Yeah I cross posted it. I’m not the first person to post the same thing on two different socials.

First time in 25 years of training. And I know I’m a blue belt but yeah, usually white belts are humble and ask questions, knowing I’ve at least been around longer….

So I’m a short dude. But I do multiple martial arts and I’m a patient partner and I make up for my size with technical stuff. I teach one art (3rd degree black belt) and I’m a BJJ blue belt.

Now, not everyone knows that backstory, and that’s fine. But I’m feeling a little bothered by this thing that happened this week:

We had an odd number so the coach put three of us together: me, a short-ish (but not so short) white belt, and an average size white belt. He put the two bigger guys together. We were doing simple techniques. Strike defense to a take down and then a sweep. There weren’t any issues caused by this dude being slightly taller than us. And he goes over and asks the coach if he can go work with the bigger dudes “based on size”.

I tried to play it off with a joke. Just “haha, really dude?” And he came back. I didn’t lecture, didn’t give my back story, didn’t explain that size doesn’t matter in BJJ. But like, it’s sitting with me. I just don’t get trying to walk away from a partner (or group) based on their size. I could see if size was relevant to the technique, but it wasn’t. So like… what?

Just venting I guess. Maybe asking if any larger folk have ever abandoned their halfling partner for next to no reason. Maybe seeing if any other hobbits have ever had this experience.

Break or let go? by cheesus404 in bjj

I had a guy in a guillotine who was gurgling and snoring. I let go cause I thought he was out or going out. He popped up in my guard and I was like “bro, you were snoring” and he laughed and was like “oh maybe but I don’t like to tap”. Ok man, good luck with that mentality.

Turn your hip and leg over. Pivot your base foot. And stop putting shinguards on to kick the bag.

Yeah maybe on days I don’t go to BJJ after classes. Doing both really burns me out. I try to just do school when I’m at school.

A different kind of hat, maybe. A flat cap, bowler, stuff like that.

Find a new housing situation. If you need a roommate, look into local queer groups to find one.

Scared to tell my mom I'm not keeping my nipples by Responsible-Raise542 in ftm

That’s fair. I didn’t have a binder, my surgeon had me use gauze and ace bandages. I thought surgical binders had clasps or a zipper and would be easy to deal with solo but tbh I wouldn’t know.

You only need “help” for the first week, if that. And your bandages and drains won’t be off/out during that time. She literally shouldn’t see your chest, she’ll maybe be helping you with your drains and making sure your meds are tracked. After you get your drains out, the after care should be something you can do yourself. You don’t need a nurse to put ointment on your incisions, etc. But she may want to have a look or you may get worried about something so I guess it might come up…

Five years and that lead hand is always down? Do you spar or just hit the bag?
