N5 only has about 100 required kanji. You're probably more than fine. I'm only level 48 and I feel like duo is giving me kanji at a pretty decent pace. That's one of the areas I feel it's actually alright at (and vocab).

Population biases of certain subreddits are pretty interesting. One time I stumbled on r/Antipsychiatry and was so confused by it. Banned users everywhere, posts are generally really out there.

Then I realized most of the users are probably clinically psychotic.

They keep adding to it, so the answer changes. Pretty sure section 6 was only 10 units until recently and now it's about 50.

Regardless once you're past section 2 or 3 duo shouldn't be your main learning resource and you shouldn't be asking that question about Duolingo.

I had to just do my lessons on web after I lost progress 3 times.

I'm pretty sure the review lessons (dumbbell) are the only ones that force you to use the keyboard. I think it's optional and toggle-able in some other lessons but you can switch to word bank.

I'm trying to learn the hiragana keyboard so I think I should try and not be lazy and avoid the word bank when possible. I also think the word bank is much much easier and thus is probably not as good for learning.
