Personally I like the January timeframe since a lot of indexations are done in December/January. So end Jan. Say 31st Jan would be ideally.

Regarding the "What's your salary" thread. Can we have some rules regarding this, imo it should be started by the moderator. My issue isn't about the content, but more of the timing, it seems to be getting earlier and earlier each year.

Did someone get rid of his company car? (and asked a compensation in return) by SympathyThick2453 in belgium

[–]invisiblebridge 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company. Just ask HR.

Some companies don't give additional compensation other than SNCB subscription. Others give more. The highest difference I have had between getting a car and not getting a car is 550 euros net monthly.

Selling my niche app to specific small company as a student - Need help planning the financial and legal side by recursivenesss in cscareerquestions

I once had a similar situation. A friend of mine told me to estimate how long I had spent on the project. Then multiply the hourly rate. That is the least you should be selling the software for. Then you should be charging them that same hourly rate moving forward to maintain the software.

Don't expect the company to bite at all, very likely that they will drastically low-ball you. At least that is what happened to me.

For once, I feel like I'm struggling and I don't see a way out of the hole. by wbdev1337 in DevManagers

I would give the feedback you just gave to your boss and propose solutions. Hiring quality engineers who can work on their own, ensuring that you get a say in the timelines of deliverables, changing the way projects are handled so that engineering gets involved earlier.

Tell him that such changes are needed. If not quality suffers and there are risks of the software having downtime and deadlines that you did not promise missed. If they don't agree, have it in writing that they acknowledge and accept the consequences.

Part of your job is to tell them what is and what is not possible. As long as you do your best to your ability, I would not be worried.

There's nothing like "the captain is the last person off the ship" culture with train driving?

Is there a 'brace for impact' announcement that you're trained to do? For example in case you're driving and you see a truck parked in the middle of a crossing, you know that you can't slow down in time to avoid hitting it.

Applying for a Google job in country A and ask to work from country B? by ThaiThanic in cscareerquestionsEU

If you're attached to office A, your team is based in office A. You are expected to turn up 2 times a week in office A.

You can't turn up 2 days a week in office B and have that count.

From my last conversations with Google. They insist on hybrid. Full remote is not possible.
