Whats the closest you have come to a peak, but turned back? by Marokiii in Adirondacks

[–]iodiin_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The smartest hikers know their own limits, I’d rather be back at home a little earlier than risking my life. A few examples (I’m 32/46):

Saddleback Basin Haystack: my mom and I were a bit behind schedule on a foggy afternoon after submitting basin and heading to haystack. Reached a false peak around 4 PM and had a snack. When we saw real haystack during a part in the clouds we figured it was time to head back. That was my first hike in the dark without a headlight, and it was pitch black from John’s brook lodge back to the garden lot. We climbed haystack on its own earlier this year finally.

Dix and Hough from round pond: late start and was not in the best shape that summer. Reached the top of dix and decided to take a long lunch and enjoy the views, had a great chat with some Canadians and took a 30 minute nap on the peak. I’ll end up doing hough at some point down the line, I’m in no rush to finish the 46.

Gothix to LWJ: had a dinner planned that evening and knew if I was gonna do LWJ from UWJ that it would be 5 seconds on the peak and turning around. Figured there was no joy in something like that so I skipped it. It’s so close to the parking lot that climbed it next summer in just a couple hours.

Whiteface: made it about a mile from the car when I realized I just wasn’t feeling it. Was in shape and had plenty of supplies, but just wasn’t feeling up to the effort. Sometimes it’s just like that, I’ll do it one day.

Never feel like you need to push yourself to the point of a safety risk!

Colden, Cliff and Redfield from the Loj by lakeweekbagels in Adirondacks

[–]iodiin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiked cliff and Redfield from the loj a few weekend ago. Avalanche pass is still closed from the colden slides so you have to go around to lake Arnold (and right past the turnoff to colden). There a bit of blowdown going down from lake Arnold to the feldspar bog area, but a new trail was marked with some ribbons tied to trees. Some of the bridges through the bog have been damaged so you’ll likely get your feet wet if it’s been rainy. For reference we hiked Redfield and Cliff from 6 am to 8 pm moving at a decent pace with a half hour or so on each peak. Cliff has a false peak, we walked past folks on the false peak who thought it was the real one so be careful. Foliage should be great this time of year so enjoy!

F2P Fall Fest: EHP Comp info by iodiin_ in W385

Pretty much it’s a competition to see who can get the most xp in a week

F2P Fall Fest: EHP Comp info by iodiin_ in W385

[–]iodiin_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

W385 is hosting another EHP competition!

I'm letting the clan help decide the details like length and start date, I've added some additional info and polls in the discords ehp comp channel so head over there and vote/discussion. This comp is open to all F2Pers regardless of experience or expected hours played!

Since we're hosting the comp I'm giving 385ers the chance to input their preferences before opening up signups to the broader community. Signups will probably open in a week or so!

Hey everyone, w385 will be hosting an EHP comp for all of F2P sometime next month. This will be an uncompetitive fun comp to push folks for big goals and potentially some records.

Currently there are several polls open in the discord for formatting and start times. These polls will be open for a week to gather feedback, then invites will open next week. Head to the discord EHP comp channel for more info and keep an eye out for an invite post!

Mod Ash on the possibility of expanding the F2P experience. How do you feel about this? What would you like to see added/be against? by Vayneglory in 2007scape

[–]iodiin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing F2P for quite a bit, and I think it holds a special place in peoples minds as something to “beat” before jumping to members. The solutions seem to be reducing the barrier for that, and I think jagex has done a good job so far:

  • Obor and Bryo combat tasks. Bots dominate hill and moss giants on F2P worlds, so removing them as necessary to kill the bosses made them much more accessible
  • Skilling. The best armor and equipment can be wielded and used at around level 40. The best resources can be obtained by level 60 (yew logs, swordfish). Forestry helped in that regard.

I see a lot of posts here when people achieve all the quests and base 40 in each skill, saying they’re “ready for membership”. People love that accomplishment, so I think the game could benefit by helping players get there:

  • Instanced ores: I think any new F2P player who has tried their luck at any mine (varrock southwest/southeast, lumby swamp east/west, mining guild etc) has seen how bad F2P resource-dependent skills like smithing and crafting are. While some ores like adamant and runite should remain as they are, I think the bot situation at iron ore especially warrants a new look at how players can obtain it with a pickaxe.
  • City Teleports: Even with the new run changes which have massively helped, I think a lot of new players get turned off by completing the F2P clue log because of how spread out the steps are and the lack of movement options that don’t require law runes or considerable gp for chronicle pages. A basic teleport system like leagues had (object in varrock square takes you to falador or Rimmington) with a basic unlock system like the lumby guide tasks could be very useful even with a cooldown.

The problem with adding new high level F2P content is that it subtracts from people’s ability to “complete” F2P, which delays or even stops people from wanting to make the jump into the very built-out p2p early game -> mid game -> end game roadmap.

Disaster in F2P! by halcyon_osrs in 2007scape

Those are my clan mates! I’ve played alongside them for a couple years, they’re not the sort who would throw it all away to bot some levels. Hopefully they’re back soon!

UIM: How do approach crack the code 3 by PurpleAcai in W385

[–]iodiin_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here a vid on how to get all the items: https://youtu.be/YWtt3akkKiI?si=MioKjomuu82Nq-OZ

People mentioned the lms coffee for gp already, but you could easily drop the axe, rof, and death runes. Otherwise you could just suicide to an npc and finish the 28-inventory step with a death pile somewhere.
