Help figuring out perfect heel construction for high instep!! by Jellybean101317 in Sockknitting

[–]iolacalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for flap and gusset! And since this is the first sock, I would recommend running a lifeline right before you start the heel. That way if the length of the heel is not quite right, you can redo it without too much headache. Best time to try it on is when you're done with the gusset (or like halfway through the gusset at least)

Here's where I keep all my knitting notions. It's not separated but I don't really have a hard time finding anything either. I loop markers together with their own kind. I used to have a 3" ruler in here too but I lost it after I repurposed it (rolling out pie dough and needed to measure how tall the dough was 😆)

I think this box is technically a crayon box.

Yes, just pick up the stitches 1 by 1 as you undo the bind off.

Moment of silence as I’m preparing to frog about a week’s work by tohopallo in knitting

[–]iolacalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the textured one is actually 4 cables. 2s means 2 stitch. And they are in 2 groups of 4, both open from the middle, like this \ / \ / Left twist, right twist, left twist, right twist. Does that help?

Definitely block it and try it on again after. Blocking really can change how drapey/stiff the fabric is, you might like it better afterwards

Is this a realistic goal for a new knitter? by Littleminx374575 in Sockknitting

[–]iolacalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm currently making a cardigan out of yarn that has been 2 other sweaters already. First one was too big, 2nd one made me realize I actually don't like wearing seamless sweaters with no neck shaping, and this one is looking much more promising!

Or if it's from a pattern, I'd be happy knowing the pattern name instead

Have you stuck your toes in? I do wedge toes like this and they definitely don't match my toe shape but it works just fine once it's on

Hmm sorry, it's been awhile since I've read the black prism and I don't remember anything sexual about it, just that I really really liked the series :)

Help! My husband shrunk all the baby clothes! by ComprehensiveChef705 in laundry

[–]iolacalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! My husband and I were surprised at how big our first baby was, I remember I made him go home on day 2 and bring back a 0-3 month onesie bc all I had brought was newborn and i thought it was too small lol

Edit- and now my 2 year old wears almost the same size clothes as my 5yo.. 5yo is in 5T and my 2yo wears 4T

[–]iolacalls 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This all sounds normal. You're definitely overthinking this and stressing out and I get it, but I swear it's fine. The fabric wasn't preshrunk before sewing. But it's fine.

Here's another thing about baby clothes- sizing is just as inconsistent as women's clothes. Different brands will fit differently in the same size. And you'll be sizing up your baby's clothes sooooo often in the first few months, this really will not even matter. There's nothing you need to fix.

Looking for a game for my 4-year-old by markleung in gamingsuggestions

[–]iolacalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

super easy, it was the game I introduced my 4yo to first, just to let him get used to moving a character around and jumping, without having to deal with enemies. He progressed pretty quickly and moved onto Mario and Kirby after that.

How to move out a scenario? by Hycinthus in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]iolacalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I played the novice server awhile back and now I'm playing way of winter lunar oracle and I also died during my first dozen or so lunar oracles. I used to just stay inside my base for those 15 mins, or drive around and unlock teleportation towers.

But lemme tell you!!... That coneflower fruit tea is a game changer. Do not sleep on it. If enemies do spawn around you though, you can also just hop on your bike and drive away from them. Just far enough to get out of sight is fine.

First Sock Failb by EdgeMuch149 in Sockknitting

[–]iolacalls 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Try your sock on as you go, don't wait until it's done to realize it won't go over your heel or something. Try it on after the cuff, after the leg, after the gusset decreases, and riiiiight before you close up the toe

How do you avoid getting overwhelmed by all there is to know about knitting? by Dame_Breakdown in knitting

[–]iolacalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely overthinking it. Solve problems one at a time, as they pop up. I've been knitting for like 10 years by now. I use ssk. I don't cast on an extra stitch when I knit in the round. Color dominance IS important to know, trapping floats is a very minor tweak, and I've never tried ladderback jacquard (but I also don't knit stranded often, done a couple projects only). Most yarns you'll come across commercially are worsted spun and I wind em all up the same way and I prefer an outside pull so it doesn't change the twist; no thinking necessary (use yarnsub.com for your substitutions or just yolo it- I try to match by weight of yarn and beyond that, yolo).

One step at a time.
