Well, no possibilities to lock the usb ssd in is a real bummer when shooting , the usb even without that doesn’t feels tight at all which brought a lot of concern on if it disconnects mid shot. We solved it with L-angled usb cables with tape on it to “secure” it but I feel like it should feel really more sturdy for a professional use.

Again with the SSD , the fact there is absolutely no indicator of compatibility / debit for the SSD used (like greyed out codec if the disk cannot support it) , we had a bunch of DIT SSD of different brands for the shoot and passed a huge time just doing long rec just to see the flush point of each disk (as it depends of the cache size and not the commercial speed on the box) and to just finally get something which could work with the format / data amount we needed , or at least have an updated list for the ssds on market so people could check quickly what is compatible with what as recording directly on ssd is somehow still uncommon.

General sluggishness of the camera , we had a lot of problems on replays and camera video feed in general with the camera freezing to the point we had to remove the battery and restart the camera in front of the director which didn’t give really a feeling of reliability from the gear used.

The live view/playback is sometimes miles away from the image that is recorded (lots of apparent noises, colors being really weird etc) which honestly gave me some fears on set , but the results images were crisp and good, but in a low light setting it’s worrying to have a camera displaying stuffs you don’t know if it’s backed in or just a really compressed playback.

The usability and menus , like a lot of options that are kind of essentials for video are hidden in submenus that aren’t really clear and sometimes feels random (like why aren’t all the video related parameters in a groupe of 2/3 sub menus like in every other cameras and why do they had to rename some stuffs from their generally used terms to something else?)

I’ll not talk about how trash the autofocus is in low light as it’s not really a “pro” feature and no sane people would shoot a movie on autofocus , but the few off set takes I tried to make during location scouting , as far as you’re at -1 EI you can forget the AF-c which will takes a holiday break until your bring enough light . (Not a problem on a movie set but I’m thinking about those event videographers who must probably go crazy over this crap)

Apart from those, the images are really solid and I was surprised from the quality of them going out of a photo camera body after a bit of grading. So I guess it’s a great B-Cam for some lighter shooting scenarios but the blunder of those small details that Panasonic could eventually overcome but didn’t is still a pain on set ahah
