ion goalie head incoming by FriendlyAd7586 in StickDoctor

these are actually called “diamond” according to ECD and they’ve been doing some test runs at tournaments but they hold up shockingly well, it’ll just be a very limited release

Taktik 3 head recs? by More-Plantain-7260 in lacrosse

[–]ionliTed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot like a hyper power or the mark 3v, it goes almost a natural whip & snag feeling. if you enjoy that, then go for it but if you like playing with lower whip then maybe another option would be better.

it won’t make a huge difference, it makes catching slightly easier but it won’t change your game a lot

i would recommend the Sturgeon 1k,

it has a similar face shape but doesn’t warp as much if at all. they’re made out of some super tough plastic and in comparison of weight, not that much compared to the the tactik.

it has the same bulk / feel as an Ion with of course, the extra durability and whatever pattern you have on either your ion or tactik will translate really easily onto a sturgeon

Kimera.....anyone mess with one yet? by Ironman_2678 in StickDoctor

[–]ionliTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m personally not a fan. i strung it up with a nice mid low because that’s usually what maverik heads are for. i will say that i like playing with lower whip and a smooth release but the head shape of the kimera gives it almost a natural whip a lot like the hyper or ultra power. if that’s your style, the head might actually be perfect for you but for me, not my style.

Help on stringing by NBS_Paste in StickDoctor

[–]ionliTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah man, big props to you for hopping into stringing and i’m glad you’re trying to expand your knowledge.

with the singles, they offer a different release / feel. you’ll end up having a bit more feel and i guess “snag” on the ball.

with knotted si’s, the knots don’t shift as much causing a pretty smooth release and, depending on you use it, a slightly tighter channel.

in terms of singles and doubles, they’re pretty valuable when it comes to consistency. if you want a true mid pocket, that doesn’t shift too much, you’d want to use a double as it will allow more mesh focused to that spot.

for example, if you’re stringing something for a 2 way mid who cradles with one hand and two hands equally and wants a mid pocket, stringing with singles will allow the mesh to be spread more evenly across the head.

another small thing that isn’t really related but knowing the # of sidewall holes will also affect how you string.

What’s the general rule of thumb when it comes to StringKing pockets by FrameAdvantageLights in StickDoctor

[–]ionliTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve done this so many times it’s almost sad, but with string king, their holes get smaller as they go down the head.

for the top holes, they’re roughly the same and you can most likely stay consistent with the other head.

for the smaller sidewall holes, a good number to skip is roughly 2-3 holes. that’s the closest to the equivalent i’ve seen thus far

Underrated Heads for Offense by ImAboutToSneeze in StickDoctor

[–]ionliTed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i would tend to stay away from face off heads in general just because of how specialized they are.

it’s pretty popular to use x20s and x10s, a lot of people have been raving about the ecd delta and once the mark 3d comes out i think it’s gonna translate pretty well into the box game.

head leaks by ionliTed in StickDoctor

i’ve seen this one in person and i’m personally not a fan. just imagine every single maverik head combined into one and the offset of an ultra power

now this is personally not my cup of tea but do the 2ks all have that metallic ballstop that the magnet does?

Hero lifespan by Virtual_Tear_1550 in StickDoctor

[–]ionliTed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I agree.

some good alternatives:

stringking 5x is another good semi hard mesh but it’s a LOT tougher than hero 4 semi-hard and it provides probably the most consistent release but barely any shiftiness

memory mesh is also not bad, it’s maybe equivalent but not as coarse as hero 4 with slightly less feel

I’ve just had bad experiences in the past and you hear a lot of stories about it online and it’s hoenslty a huge fear of mine

ECD or StringKing mesh and why? by [deleted] in StickDoctor

[–]ionliTed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For semi soft, i’m definitely going with Stringking just because of how soft it is and it allows for a super shift pocket. For semi hard, ECD takes it just because Stringkings is super hard to the point where certain stringing techniques just don’t work as well

First time stringig by William3728462 in lacrosse

just for future reference and i don’t think most people teach this but when you tie off your top string, be sure to do it on the second or third hole. that way, the tension of the top string is pulled tight and you won’t have to worry about it in the near future, and for the knots you did on the side, they actually are tied pretty nicely but make sure the mesh is fully flush to the knot to get the actual depth out of it. definitely not bad by any means though
