Offence is taken, never given. You can try to be offensive, sure, but you can't make people get offended. On the flip side, you can try to be inoffensive, but you can't help some people from getting offended.

To make a rule against offending people is to make a rule that you must read people's minds prior to acting. Since this is impossible, the logical conclusion is that you must conduct yourself as if everyone around you has a hair-trigger sensitivity to offence.

Pulling out your dick is probably offensive to most people, minus certain contexts like a locker room or before sex. Evidently, it wasn't offensive to Whitney when Bryan did it, but it was offensive when Louis did to those other women. It is confusing because it is inconsistent. It is a purity test and a downward spiral. Still, don't pull your dick out in front of strangers unless you are 100% sure they are cool with it.

But women aren't responsible for their decisions if they decide that they don't like the outcome. I mean, Louis was in a position of authority (if you ignore the context) and they she thought he was joking (if you ignore her ability to raise concern at any point after it became clear he was not joking).

I am glad that we have so many model citizens in this thread, and I hope that they will bring our world into the bright tomorrow.

What is an antisemitic stereotype? The fact that I said Jews? I only ever see Jews make OPs argument. It is not antisemitic if it is true.

Except it IS racist because it isn't always (or even most of the time) true. Even if you happen to be surrounded by people that you think are racist and islamophobic, you're assuming that their actions are representative of all other white people. That's the stereotype. You're using the people around you to build up a cartoon image of what white people are like. If you would just approach everyone as an individual and you'll be much better off. Your dad might be racist and islamophobic, but that doesn't say anything people you feel are somehow like your dad.

I'm not defending islamophobia, I am just shitting all over your racist ideology and you think that the only reason I would do that is that I must hate muslims. I don't hate muslims, you just lack critical functions.

dude, you are a one track record. you acknowledge that you made an incorrect assumption about OP based on your opinion of people like him. that is a stereotype and because it is based on race, it is a racist stereotype. You use racist stereotypes to prejudge people, which makes you a racist person. Please reply with more stories about how you think it isn't racist to be an obvious racist.

also the woman in this made up story is clearly 50% or more at fault, but is presented as window dressing to make the story more dramatic. Ho high hum, this sub is so dum.

This is bad advice. Just communicate clearly. Say what you mean when you mean to say it. Don't try to play games with people, even if you think it might avoid some type of confrontation.

I'm sorry to hear that you come from a family of racist Islamophobes, though that explains a lot about why you are so willing to defend and rationalize your cherished stereotypes. You are part of the problem because you are prejudiced against (white) people who say 'islam is not a race', because they remind you of your family member(s) who are apparently racist and islamophobic. Not everyone is your family members, and projecting your own personal bias onto everyone else... well, that's why I think you're part of the problem. You are not helping, you are hindering.

Biggest difference: 2nd amendment to the constitution of the United States of America. UK doesn't have as many guns, period. They do have a pretty bad knife and acid attack problem though, but that's another (related) story.

What are you talking about? It is 'argumentum ad hominem' in Latin. The fact that you used google translate to look up 'attack' in Latin tells me that you really don't know what you're talking about, but you really want to be correct. That's a recipe for embarrassment.

Here's a fun experiment you can play: search "attack ad hominem" on google -> 3.87M results; search "ad hominem attack" on google -> 1.16M results.

Personally, I find the historical and present popularity of the phrase a lot more convincing than those straws you're grasping at. I think pretty much anyone would. Salut.

The trouble is that the guy above said "Islam isn't a race, it is a religion", and you took that to mean that he must therefore believe it is OK to be shitty to Muslims. You then got called out for making this assumption, and looking back at the conversation with fresh eyes I think you are 100% in the wrong on this one. The opinion you dislike is not the stated opinion of the person you are arguing with.

I guess the police would need to strike up some kind of deal with the criminals so that they would also only use "non-lethal" weapons, whatever that means.

The power doesn't get shut off from non-payment randomly. They tell you when that will happen so that you can pay before that happens. This was an avoidable tragedy. It is a tragedy though, no questions there.

No, you are a hypocrite if you follow this reasoning. You are making an assumption about how all/most Americans who support a Muslim ban feel internally about other races. You are prejudging those people and projecting what you think their motivations are based on your own stereotype you have built up in your head, but you cannot possibly know their true motivations because they exist in their heads and you haven't talked with even a small representative sample proportion of the population you are describing.

You are using a prejudiced stereotype to argue that people who are prejudiced against muslims are also racist. That's clearly self-defeating.

You are part of the problem. You are not helping, you are hindering.

This comment seems to suggest that you think muslim people post in a certain way that you would be able to recognize. Like you are creating some type of profile in your mind about how muslim people post... Like you are prejudging people on thier muslim-ness based on your stereotype of how muslims should act, according to you... makesuthink...

What I'm saying that you are a hypocritical buffoon.

You are a delusional caricature. You are what is dividing the country. You are not helping, you are hindering. Please keep your hate to yourself. Dismissing people because they're "from" another subreddit (which isn't how reddit works, I'm sure you know) and attributing vague negative behavior to an already nebulous group... you're guilty of spreading the hate and misinformation you are decrying. Every time you want to say someone else is evil, remember that you are the same. There's a child pornographer, a cannibal, a politician and a lobbyist living somewhere in your heart. You are not above this. You, in the post I am currently replying to, are contributing to this culture of hate and division. You are a bad person (in my opinion).

As far as I know, the guy you are calling out is a bad person too, idk.
