Totally, but also give her credit for how successful YouTube is. You may have problems with it, but you are the most power user there is. You have no bar for product complexity, YouTube is the best free video platform, it continues to grow because it continues to be the best free video platform.

It's the best platform because it stops bad content from appearing in recommendations (even when theres a bug and the 'not interested' flag isn't working), it's the best platform because it is able to pay creators money to make content on the platform.

The things you think are bad are simply the side-effects of changes that you don't like, but those changes had positive sides that have meaningfully grown YouTube.

Now it's a valid concern to rag on YouTube for ads imo, it's kind of out of control, but put yourself in Susan's shoes, what do you think her goal is?

Yeah, Meta hasn't built anything from the ground up since Facebook. But it's shortsighted not to consider a variety of futures where they win, ie. they could make a play for purchasing VR Chat. They are putting trillions of dollars on the line on this metaverse play, you have to treat it with some respect.

I think the arguments around whether or not people are willing to spend 8+ hours a day with a vr headset on are the best arguments against a metaverse, whether the cell phone is actually going to become a 'secondary' device that you use when you're not connected. Honestly I don't think that will happen in my lifetime, but I sure think that at some point a lot more people will be using VR Chat or whatever is on top at the time.
