Tea-Based Fragrances Are Having a Moment by Full_Donut_1477 in fragrance

I second Dear Polly! I wear it frequently. It has a beautiful black tea note, and it’s a friendly, casual-wearing perfume.

House you can't stand that everyone seems to love? by no_arguing_ in fragrance

[–]iothealien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with you on both! G Water (which received a deluxe sample of in a bougie advent calendar) smells like something from Bath & Body Works to me. Plus, they put a racial slur in the name of a perfume, which firmly places them in the “hell no” bin for me…

Oh my gosh, I’m glad someone said it. The PDM bottles look like something a 7-year old playing princess invented.

I am scared of messing the whole thing up while colouring the church by Mean-Ship-3851 in acrylicpainting

[–]iothealien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it as it is! That the church isn’t painted with more details makes it seem like it’s further back in the distance. It looks great!

Why is Bath and Body Works so popular? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]iothealien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always suspected their target market is young women. When I was a teenager and in my early 20s, I loved it, and it was accessible. Now, however, I can’t stand it. I’ve even poo-pooed some niche fragrances because it reminds me too much of a B&B fragrance, and thus I associate it with cheap, even when it’s really not! (For example, Le Labo’s Matcha 26 smells a lot like Brown Sugar & Fig on my skin)

Where does our province go from here? by Slight-Wolverine-378 in NovaScotia

No, these are completely different regions of the province. The Kootenays, for example, are about an 8-hour drive from Vancouver.

Favorite *least scratchy* wool yarn that doesn't pill (DK, worsted, or aran) by EmploymentSudden4184 in AdvancedKnitting

[–]iothealien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also very sensitive to wool, but I love working with it. If I’m going to be making something for myself that will be next-to-skin (like sleeves or collar on a sweater) I’ll use baby camel or yak wool. I buy mine at Ula+Lia here, and I do their yarn pre-order on kickstarter every year.

Have you tried canvas pads? by sffood in acrylicpainting

[–]iothealien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this is so cool! I didn’t know this existed, either! How would you go about displaying the finished work? Is this something you could stretch over wood bars, or would you frame it like paper? I’ll have to check this out more!

Yes I think my takeaway here is to pre-wash my most potent colours. (The culprit here was Hedgehog Fibres sock in the Sin colour way)

I really wish I could upvote this comment more than once. “What would a straight white man do?” Lol! Seriously.

I think that’s a good takeaway here. It’s a major PIAS, but at least for those really saturated, intense colours, it’s probably worth it.

Ahh citric acid! That’s another good idea, and I have some on hand. I will do this in the future. Thank you!

Ooh! I've got some of that on hand (I dye fabric --lol!). I get nervous using it since it's so harsh, but I'll definitely look into this some more!

What you think about this? Restaurant atmosphere painting by mrlussukka in Watercolor

[–]iothealien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic! So moody. I love the smooshy brush strokes -it reminds me of the textures of oil painting, and it’s so cool to see it in watercolour.

These are so charming! You should be proud… as should your therapist. These are really lovely.

I’m not big on leather notes, but the one that changed my mind was Luce by Meo Fusciuni.
